Quiet Riot

The original four members recorded their debut album Quiet Riot, or QR I, which was released in Japan in 1977. Months later, bassist Kelly Garni left the band. The second album Quiet Riot II, or QR II, was recorded at The Record Plant and released in Japan in 1978. Although Garni's replacement Rudy Sarzo was pictured and credited on 'QR II', he did not join before its recording. Rhoads followed his friend Dana Strum's advice and joined Ozzy Osbourne's band. DuBrow and Forsyth tried to keep the band together following Rhoads' departure, with the addition of guitarist Greg Leon and former Suite 19 bassist Gary Van Dyke. During this period of 1980-1982, the band's name was changed to DuBrow.

Who started Quiet Riot?

Quiet Riot was an American heavy metal band whose 1983 US Festival appearance helped to solidify metal's image. They are best known for their hit singles "Cum on Feel the Noize" and "Metal Health." They were founded in 1973 by guitarist Randy Rhoads and bassist Kelly Garni, under the name Mach 1. The original line-up featured lead vocalist the late Kevin DuBrow, Rhoads, Garni, and drumme...

Metal Health by Quiet Riot

Metal Health was the breakthrough album for the American glam metal band Quiet Riot and their first record without deceased legendary guitarist Randy Rhoads. It was released on March 11, 1983, bolstered by the #5 hit "Cum on Feel the Noize" and the #31 hit "Metal Health". Metal Health was the first heavy metal album to hit #1 on the Billboard Music Charts pop albums chart. It knocked The Police's Synchronicity out of #1 in the U.S. The album went on to sell more than 6 million copies and is considered a classic among heavy metal fans to this day. However, some critics such as the All Music Guide, perceive it as a one-hit wonder, owing to Quiet Riot's relative lack of critical and commercial success with following albums (and subsequent disintegration) towards the end of the 1980s.

Quiet Riot - Cum On Feel The Noize

Quiet Riot's version of "Cum On Feel the Noize" went on to peak at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100

The song was revived in 1983 by heavy metal band Quiet Riot, who also covered Slade's "Mama Weer All Crazee Now". Quiet Riot's version of "Cum On Feel the Noize" went on to peak at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 on November 19 & 26, 1983. It helped make the Metal Health album a #1 hit. The song's success drew nationwide attention to the 1980s L.A. metal scene. It also helped to break Slade belatedly in the USA. The song would also be certified gold by the RIAA. Originally, Kevin DuBrow and Frankie Banali were dead set on not covering the song, because they claimed that they hated it.

The Quiet Riot version is also featured in the popular video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City by Rockstar North, which takes place in 1986. It is also featured in the video game NHL 2K8 by 2K Sports. It will also be in the soundtrack of upcoming music video game Rock Revolution by Konami.

Quiet Riot's version of "Cum On Feel the Noize" was ranked #80 in VH1's 100 Greatest One-hit Wonders.

The Randy Rhoads Years

features a handful of songs from Randy Rhoads' time in Quiet Riot

The Randy Rhoads Years features a handful of songs from Randy Rhoads' time in Quiet Riot in the 1970s. It features previously-unreleased material and some songs from Quiet Riot's first two albums (which were released only in Japan). However, these songs are not all identical to the versions that appear on the original albums -- on this album, the songs generally are presented in much higher sound fidelity, and some songs have been rearranged. For instance, Afterglow (Of Your Love) is presented here in an alternate, acoustic version.

However, the package does NOT feature every song from the two albums. A number of those songs have yet to see any sort of release outside Japan.

"Laughing Gas" by Quiet Riot

Performed at all the live performances while Randy Rhoads played with the band.

It was never recorded onto an album until a live bootleg performance was enhanced (with rerecorded vocals) and placed on The Randy Rhoads Years. The improvised solo was just over 6 minutes long and contained clips from future songs of Ozzy Osbourne including, "Goodbye to Romance", "Mr. Crowley", "Dee", and "Crazy Train". The solo outlined Randy's talent and productivity level at such a young age. This solo also contained a reference to William Tell Overture and this certainly got the crowd roaring.

When Rhoads left the band, this song was never again performed.
