Quikonnex for Publishing

I began writing an ezine in 2001; sending it out through email. When the government stepped in with the Can-Spam Act, I decided to look for other avenues to distribute my ezine. Another marketer showed me Quikonnex. It was brand new then as was the whole concept of RSS. I took a look and joined. I have been publishing The Trii Zine Ezine through their service ever since.

Now my subscribers receive instant notification each time I add something new, and never get email from me unless they write to me through the feed.

I am a Founding Publisher at Quikonnex.

What is Quikonnex?

Quikonnex is an rss publishing service, created and developed by master coders, Jim Gray and Carolyn Peltier. They are two very awesome and creative people.

Quikonnex began simply as a way to syndicate content, but has become much more over the years. They have expanded their direct to desktop communication service to include private messaging, chat, conferencing and many, many other services through their creation of what is called Desk View.

Quikonnex is the best communication and content management service going. You don't need to be technical to use it. There is no need to have your own hosting or servers because they take care of all that jazz. There is no need to know how to write an xml file, because everything posted is converted for you.

Quikonnex has been around longer than Blogger.com and is far and away a better service.

Quikonnex membership is free, and their DeskView and QuickView readers are insanely easy to use. To publish on Quikonnex is not free, but the cost is nominal. The benefits to publishing on the Q are far greater than any cost involved. Simply put, you can do more with Quikonnex than with Blogger, Word Press, or any other blogging system available today.

A free Quikonnex membership will allow you to subscribe to any feed on their service and their readers will read any feed available regardless of what service publishes it.

Content Management

More than a Blog

As a Quikonnex publisher, I can publish as many channels as I like. I have more than ten Quikonnex channels, each pertaining to a different topic and all are linked together.

All of the feeds are converted into web pages, so that one does not even need a feed reader to view any of the Quikonnex channels published. They have even converted the xml pages to look like a regular web page.

Have a look:
Trii Zine Ezine (regular page)
Trii Zine Ezine (converted xml)

You can even post pod casts to your channels.

QMTP

A Whole New System of Commuication

QMTP is Quikonnex Message Text Protocol

This is a program to allow all Quikonnex users to send and receive instant messages through the rss feed. No more email with subscribers. No more need for opting in to receive messages, because Quikonnex channels work like cable TV subscriptions. You will only receive updates from the channels you're subscribed to and can unsubscribe by deleting a channel from your list.

QMTP is way better than other programs like Yahoo messenger. The application is web based; therefore there is nothing to download. There is nothing to screw up your computer.

Every time I have installed Yahoo messenger, I have had major problems with my system.

Try it out and send me a message: QMTP Me!

DeskView

The Ultimate Communication and Content Management Tool

DeskView is the application created to make direct to desktop communication easy. Not only can a Q publisher brand their DeskView, but it can be used to send and recieve QMTP messages, to post to channels and to keep track of your contacts, reminders and your calendar. All subscribers to Q channels can download a copy of DeskView for use for free and I have created a user's guide to help others learn how to use its myriad of functions.

Download the User's Guide Here, it's free and you can even download the application from inside the book.

What Wiki Says...

RSS on Wiki

RSS (most commonly translated as "Really Simple Syndication" but sometimes "Rich Site Summary") is a family of web feed formats used to publish frequently updated works?such as blog entries, news headlines, audio, and video?in a standardized format. An RSS document (which is called a "feed", "web feed",

"Web feeds | RSS | The Guardian | guardian.co.uk",

The Guardian, London, 2008, webpage:

GuardianUK-webfeeds.

or "channel") includes full or summarized text, plus metadata such as publishing dates and authorship. Web feeds benefit publishers by letting them syndicate content automatically. They benefit readers who want to subscribe to timely updates from favored websites or to aggregate feeds from many sites into one place. RSS feeds can be read using software called an "RSS reader", "feed reader", or "aggregator", which can be web-based, desktop-based, or mobile-device-based. A standardized XML file format allows the information to be published once and viewed by many different programs. The user subscribes to a feed by entering into the reader the feed's URI or by clicking an RSS icon in a web browser that initiates the subscription process. The RSS reader checks the user's subscribed feeds regularly for new work, downloads any updates that it finds, and provides a user interface to monitor and read the feeds.

RSS formats are specified using XML, a generic specification for the creation of data formats. Although RSS formats have evolved from as early as March 1999, it was between 2005 and 2006 when RSS gained widespread use, and the ("Category: File - :Feed-icon.svg|16px") icon was decided upon by several major Web browsers.

Syndication: What's the Big Deal?

What is so important about syndicating content?

Syndication is what put Dear Abby on the map. It is the capability to write once and publish in multiple locations. Without syndication Dave Barry, Abigail Van Burnen, The Peanuts and Garfield would not be famous today.

Quikonnex allows writers to syndicate their content, reaching far more people than a simple email. Search engine spiders love rss feeds because they are updated regularly (in theory).

Static web pages are crawled once a month, but rss feeds are capable of pinging web servers like Google to notify them of updated content to crawl. Therefore, feeds are crawled as often as they are updated, rather than on the search engine's crawling schedule.

Syndication allows other webmasters to add your content to their pages through placement of a few lines of code (java script or PHP). Once there, the webmaster need do nothing to get updates on your content because the code updates it for them.

Trina, thank you for creating this Lens on Quikonnex. You, above all, have really been able to maximize the power of Q. Plus, it's quite an accomplishment to have moved from being an Ezine publisher to a writer and publisher of books that mean something. Keep on writing, you've got a real talent for it. Jim
