Paper, Paper, and More Paper.... Quilling Instructions and more

You can never have enough paper, don't you agree. If so, then perhaps you too have a paper addiction and quilling is next on your list.  Quilling, also known as Paper Filigree or Filigrana, is an art form that dates back to the Renaissance and quite possibly to the Ancient Egyptians (who used thin metals instead of paper).  Strips of paper are twirled, rolled, glued, shaped and then joined together to make the most incredibly beautiful patterns and designs.  You will never believe it was made from paper! Join us for an adventure!

Pink Flamigo Anyone?

Quilling a Pink Flamingo

This was a really fun quilling project for me... This pink lady was given as a gift - she adorns a card. Pink Flamingos aren't just for the yard anymore.

You can find the free quilling pink flamingo pattern here.

Have fun!

She is so happy she is jumping for joy, or perhaps she is a cheerleader and you can customize her for your favorite cheerleader. She is a great embellishment for your scrapbooking page or card.

To Make Her Dress
Bodice - use 1/8 in (.3 cm) wide quilling paper
1 - 8 in (20.32 cm) Purple Marquise
2 - 4 in (10.16 cm) Purple Marquise for her sleeves

Skirt - use 1/8 in (.3 cm) wide quilling paper
and 1/4 in (.6 cm) wide for fringed flower
1 - 6 in (15.24 cm) Pink fringed flower
2 - 8 in (20.32 cm) Red Marquise (outside)
2 - 6 in (15.24 cm) Red Marquise
2 - 6 in (15.24 cm) Pink Marquise
1 - 4 in (10.16 cm) Red Marquise (center)

Tip: Place the large red Marquise on the outside and layer the remaining Marquise alternating color on top to give dimension to the skirt. You can always add more Marquise for a fuller look.

2 - 3 in (7.62 cm) White strips for arms
2 - 6 in (15.24 cm) White strips for legs
2 - 3 in (7.62 cm) Purple Tight Coil for heel
2 - 6 in (15.24 cm) Pink Tight Coil for front of shoes
1 - 48 in (121.92 cm) White Tight Coil for her face
5 - 4 in (10.16 cm) Pink Spiral for her hair

You can mix and match colors to match any card or layout. Have fun!

Quilling Fringed Flowers

Quilling Fringed Flowers - Instructions for quilling hand fringed flowers. A strip of paper, tiny cuts, a little roll and what an amazing flower! Fringed flowers are particularly attractive, you can make the fringe by hand cutting or using a tool called a fringer. Either way, the results are quite stunning. I personally like to add a bead or rhinestone to add that extra pizazz. Check out the instructions if you want to learn how to make them.

Quilling Spreuer or Onion Holder Designs

Basic Spreuer or Onion Holder - Instructions for making Spreuer designs using an Onion Holder also called Spreuer. This is a technique where you wrap your quilling strips on an onion holder (looks like a comb you might use if your hair was very curly or permed).
