Quilt Ball Ornaments Aren't Just For Christmas!

Quilted balls are fun, easy to make, and make great gifts or items to decorate your home for holidays or anytime. There is no limit to the ways you can design a quilted ball. From holiday themes to animal themes or just using colors that you like, quilted balls can fit anywhere. In the modules below, I will show you some of the great ways you can brighten your life with quilted balls!

Collect Quilt Ball Christmas Ornaments

Quilt balls are great Christmas collectibles. They come in many styles and themes that are just for Christmas. A collection of one theme can make a great holiday display. You will find them in sparkling, elegant themes, country traditional style, or fun Christmas characters. Or, collect a nice array of ornaments by color or by the artist who makes them. These ornaments are generally one of a kind and relatively inexpensive to buy.
For some of the balls shown here and other unique quilt ball ornaments visit Darl's Prairie Creations.

Spring Holiday Quilted Ornaments for Gifts or Decor

Spring brings St. Patrick's Day, Easter and Mother's Day. There are quilt ball ornaments for spring holidays too! Add a touch of green with St. Patricks Day Ornaments or celebrate Easter with lovely pastel ornaments.
Valentine theme quilt balls are a great way to celebrate the holiday of love! What sweetie wouldn't love to receive this ornament as a forever reminder of your feelings? Or add a few to your valentine holiday decor and enjoy the bright spot of color they bring to your home or office. Collect a quilt ball ornament for every holiday to keep the theme alive all year. Watch for St. Patricks ornaments, Mother's Day, Spring (May Day), Fourth of July and fall or Halloween, just to mention a few!

Quilted Balls for Animal Lovers

Animal theme quilted balls make great gifts for animal lovers or for yourself! My favorites are horses and cats, but you're only limited by the fabric you can find. Personalized quilt balls can be made using your printer and printable fabric.

What Are Quilted Balls and How Do You Make Them?

Quilted balls are styrofoam balls covered with 2 1/2" pieces of fabric in a quilt-like pattern. There is no sewing involved, all the pieces are placed on the ball with regular dressmaker pins. The pattern is worked on each side of the ball and then fabric or ribbon is glued around the ball to cover the edges. A nice finishing touch is a perky bow on the top and a piece of ribbon for a hanger. There are illustrations and easy to follow direections at make-stuff.com.

Equipment For Making Quilted Balls

It is very handy to have a rotary cutter to cut all the square pieces of fabric for quilted balls and a glue gun on hand for finishing it. Here are a few tools that would be very handy to help you get started.

What Do You Do With Quilted Balls?

The main purpose of quilted balls has always been as ornaments. Christmas trees or Easter Trees look really beautiful with a collection of quilted balls. Quilted balls also look great hanging off the end of a curtain rod or the end bracket of a shelf. How about one hanging off the rear view mirror in your car? My favorite display is a bowl full of flower theme ornaments as a center piece.
