This is a simple beginner's pattern.
Materials List
- 3 coordinated FAT Quarters
- 1 fat quarter of batting
- matching thread,2 snaps, needle,scissors,pins,fabric marker..
This purse is reversible !
Step #1
cut the Fabric
A. Cut Fabric #1 into 2 pieces.1. 11" X 22"
2. 7" X 22 (for flap)
B. Cut Fabric #2 into 3 pieces
1. 11" X 22" piece (inside of purse)

D. Cut batting into 2 pieces
1. 18" X 22"
2. 7" X 22 (for flap)

I just sewed 2 lines of stitches along the stipe in my fabric.
Step #3
Fold and stitch side seams
Fold the Larger piece of Fabric #1 in half, right sides together. 11" X 11". Stitch a 1/4 inch seam down both opposite sides. Turn fabric right-side out.Fold the smaller piece of Fabric #1 in half, right sides together. 7" X 11". Stitch a 1/4 inch seam down 2 adjacent sides. Turn fabric right-side out.

Step #4
Make binding strip and strap
Binding:Make approximately 25 inches of binding from the two 3" X 18" strips from the 3rd fat quarter.
Strap:
1. Stich together the two remaing pairs of 3" X 22" inch strips, making two 3" X 41" strips.
2. Half-fold the two 3" wide X 41" long strips lengthwise, wrong sides together, into two 1.5" wide strips.
(half-fold means to fold each side in .75 inches so they meet in the center)
2. Place the two 41" strips together (center splits together).
3. Sew 2 seams length wise, 1/8th inch in from both edges.
Step #5
Binding the pieces together
Place the large Fabric #2 piece inside of the Fabric #1 pouch. Wrong sides together. Line up the unfinished edges. Baste.
Place the smaller Fabric #1 piece outside the larger Fabric #1 pouch, right sides together, rough edges aligned. Baste.
Place the ends of the shoulder straps centered on each of the pouches side seams, rough edges aligned, inside the pouch, on right side of Fabric #2. Baste.
Bind the rough edge with Fabric #3 binding strip.
Tip:
Try using the 3rd coordinated fabric for the entire strap. Then for the flap use
7" X 11.5" Fabric #1 and 7" X 11.5" Fabric #2, connected into the 7" X 22" flap size.
This will create a reversible bi-colored flap.
Step #6
add snaps and decorations
I used 2 small snaps on the center of the flap, this makes it adjustable.Try decorative buttons and ribbons !
Use the left over Fabric #3 to make a cute pocket !
