Quit Smoking - What about the UK smoking ban?
Ranked #26,291 in Culture & Society, #506,167 overall
Good or Bad; Right or Wrong? Are you ready to Quit Smoking?
The debate continues, but surprisingly quietly. Is the smoking ban, now across most of the UK, a good thing or a bad thing? And is it right or is it wrong?
Most smokers, of course, hate that ban. (Some welcome it to help them quit smoking.) People may smoke only in private places such as homes or private cars, and outdoors, but nearly nowhere else. Company cars, business premises, private members' clubs... No smoking!
Pro-choice people argue that this violates people's rights: If you want to smoke, what business is it of others? You're allowed to climb (and fall off) mountains, drink yourself to a stupor, and eat unhealthy foods. Why not smoke?
Pro-ban people argue that this supports people's rights to not smoke: If you go to a restaurant or pub, you should have the right not to inhale second-hand smoke. They also talk about the message this gives to teenagers, who continue to take up the habit.
Of course, each side has its valid arguments and comments, and I doubt that they'll ever agree. But it's all a moot point, because the ban is in place and likely to stay that way.
Give Up or Keep Smoking
Well, smokers have a few choices. As a smoker, you could simply not go out. I don't think that this is a good solution.
Or, you could just put up with it and smoke outdoors when you go out; many smokers do this and decide that it's OK.
You could lobby for a change in the law, though I don't see it changing.
Finally, you could quit smoking and look after your lungs and body. That would be the ideal solution, assuming of course that you're happy to give up. And who wouldn't be happy to quit smoking? Actually, a number of smokers choose to smoke in the knowledge that they are doing certain damage to their bodies. And that's entirely their choice.
However, more and more smokers want to quit smoking. They don't want to suffer the often-painful and often-fatal consequences. Unfortunately, they find it difficult to give up (or they would have done so already).
It's not just the addiction, because nicotine isn't highly addictive (it leaves your body in under four days); it seems to be the psychological addiction.
"The cigarette is my friend," people have told me. Or, "I wouldn't know what to do with my hands." Another common difficulty is, "I use it to relax, and wouldn't know how to cope if I quit smoking."
Quick Poll...
The Good News to Help Quit Smoking
What's the best way to change your mind?
When I quit smoking, I found that the best start was to make the decision. That's always the starting point. If you are certain that you want to quit smoking, you will find a way.
Perhaps that's how you found this page?
You see, once you've made the decision, all you need do is change your mind. That sounds difficult, doesn't it? Yet the funny thing is, it's easy when you know how.
How you can Change Your Mind to Quit Smoking
I used to find this really difficult. But in the past few years, I've discovered hypnosis and in particular self-hypnosis. Self-hypnosis is where I hypnotize myself, using MP3s or DVDs.
It's a really cool way to do it, because it feels soooo good, I know it's safe, and I know how long it's going to last. I can also trust it not to mess around with my mind. If I get a track from someone I don't know, I listen to it once without following the instructions; then, if I'm happy with it (and I've always been so far), I listen to it the next day but this time I follow the instructions and go into hypnosis.
I also like the way that I can listen again and again, any time I like, whenever my willpower starts to feel weak.
So, what I'm saying is, Quit Smoking through Hypnosis. It's cool, it works, and it feels really, really good.
Finally...
Thanks for reading! If you've used self-hypnosis, please tell us what it felt like. Leave your comments below...

- I think that many smokers do not smell the smoke of others when they are in public places. Many years ago people were allowed to smoke everywhere, as a result many people are experiencing lung, throat, mouth and stomach cancers that were never experienced. This lens makes us to know the hazards.5stars

- Good or Bad; Right or Wrong? Are you ready to Quit Smoking? In my opinion there is no need for this topic. Good or Bad – everyone knows it is bad. Right or wrong – this too all know it is wrong. Are you ready to quit – what’s there to ask it, they should quit for their own health..

- One of my husband’s friend who’s now no more was suffering from lung cancer because of his non stop smoking. My husband used to advise his friends about the diseases caused by smoking and his friend is an example for it. I suggest my husband to show this quit smoking article to his other friends.

- Public smoking ban should be banned! I'm a nonsmoker but understand that smoking although highly it’s a social habit and there should be smoking areas for people who want to smoke and drink and talk in public places. The ban is not going to make people stop smoking, they will smoke double at home
