A Personal Story
Well, let's kick the door right in. I think it's will power!
I am convinced that anyone who is really determined to quit, will succeed. Let me tell you a personal story.
My father was a very heavy smoker for 55 years in a row, smoking on average 2 packages a day. When he first started having health problems (he had his first heart attack after 53 years of smoking), he said "sure, I will quit, if that's going to help me".
That was just an answer he knew his doctors and his wife (my mom) wanted to hear at that moment. He wasn't really convinced of the need to quit, so he started smoking again. First secretly, then back to normal. One year later, he got his second heart attack, followed by the same promises to the doctors and his family, about his smoking habit.
Guess what happened, he didn't quit and got his third attack, again one year later in the winter. Things looked very bad right then for him. We all had many conversations with him about his smoking addiction, but we knew he had to be convinced from within himself. And finally, he made that promise to himself and his family that he would never touch another cigarette anymore. We could feel that it was different this time. That promise felt not as empty words anymore and he knew deep down inside, that this was probably it, his last chance....
So he chose to live instead of smoking. He was finally 100% determined and nothing could stop him. And yes, he succeeded to quit smoking nicotine after 55 years of heavy smoking. I think that's a great achievement after so many years. And when you look at it, the only thing that had changed this time, was his mindset about smoking.
At the time I'm writing this my dad is still alive and well. He has stopped for 12 years now, never had any serious problems with his health anymore, since the day he decided to stop smoking. Because you know what? Our body is a beautiful thing that constantly tries to heal and cure itself.
I know that if he could do it, after being seriously addicted to the smoking habit for 55 years, anyone could do it. But you have to be convinced for the full 100%, 99% is not enough.

That will help you to ease the quitting side effects like nausea, cravings and bad headache.
No matter what the approach is you choose, but you need to set a date when you will not smoke a cigarette again. Plan this date carefully, arrange a picnic with your family so you do not have time to sit and smoke or try hanging out on that day with your non-smoker friends.
This may also help you... Write down the reasons why you want to quit smoking and start to visualize how it's going to be for you after you just quitted, the new smoke free you. Check on these reasons at least once a day. It's a very powerful technique!
And also, start drinking a lot of water, to get those toxins out of your body. You need to flush them out of you as soon as possible. Your body will take care of the rest.
Consider eating more (more often, small portions). Yes, of course only healthy food. Your metabolism will drop, so make sure you eat at least 5 healthy little meals throughout the day.
And finally, start exercising or increase your current exercising, because nicotine provided dopamine to your body. Exercise is an excellent way to stimulate dopamine production naturally, so your body still gets what it wants and what it was used to have.

In the morning, wake up a half an hour or so earlier, put on your shoes, and hit the road. Most roads are less crowded in the morning and less polluted as well, making it a wonderful and relaxing way to start the day.
You should also steer clear from the coffee and try tea instead. If you are moving around in the house, try playing music. You can also redecorate your room by adding a few pictures around. When you redecorate, you should get rid of everything that reminds you of smoking.
Plan your day where you'll have something fun to do at the end of the day. It doesn't need to be something that involves money, as you don't want to end up bankrupt. Spending time with family, playing games, or going for a walk with your family are all good activities.
Watching television doesn't really fit into the list. The reason is because television isn't something that demands a lot of attention. You can easily do something else while you are watching television.
You should also make a list of things that build up your stress and try to avoid them. If it isn't possible, you should try to find out some some ways to bust stress and use them. Whatever you do, you shouldn't use stress as an excuse to start smoking.
There are many other methods that you can use to beat stress. You can try breathing exercises, mediation, or even music. Another great way to beat stress is using the distressing ball. If you don't have one or access to one, you can always wiggle your fingers and toes. This too is a great and natural method to beat stress.

There has to be some kind of passionate reason, one that makes you excited, coming from within you. If you found your reason that makes you excited somehow, I know that it will take you less effort to succeed.
So, what other reasons then the obvious health related reasons (like lowering risk for cancer, heart attacks, strokes, etc) are there that could help you find the right motivation? Here are a few suggestions, but keep in mind, this is not a complete list. There are probably dozens of other reasons as well. Ok, so here they are, a few of my life improving thoughts %u2026.
* You will feel a lot better right away, having more energy and better focus. I also know that your smell and taste will improve. Teeth get whiter, your breath will be fresher and there will be less coughing as well.
* You will be proud of yourself! You will automatically be a better role model for others and if you have children, you will set a better example for them.
* Not only you will be proud of yourself, I bet others will be very proud of you too, like your partner, friends, family, kids, grandchildren or co-workers.
* You will no longer expose others to your second hand smoke. And if you are pregnant, you will have a healthier baby.
* You will be able to walk up stairs without being short of breath.
* You will have more control over your life, without worries like when or where you will have your next smoke, even (or especially) in smoke free places. On top of that, you will have more time for yourself, for instance, you will never have to worry about quickly buying a pack of cigarettes anymore or searching for a light.
* You will have more money to spend. How cool is that?
Most important is that you will find your own reason that's compelling to you. Just keep looking for a reason that speaks to your heart and stick with your decision to stop smoking nicotine, so you can be proud of yourself!

Smoking has been linked to various health problems in babies, including prematurity and low birth weight. Mothers who smoke are at increased risk of having a stillbirth, miscarriage or premature infant. Smoking while pregnant will lower the amount of oxygen available to you and your growing baby and increase your baby's heart rate. These health factors also contribute to raising the SIDS risk for your infant, and in your child's decreased ability to breathe correctly or take in enough oxygen for a restful, restorative sleep at night.
Babies born to mothers who smoke are significantly lighter and shorter than those born to non smokers. Children who are exposed to tobacco smoke before birth or in the home are far more likely to suffer from respiratory illnesses and infections, which can also contribute to a decrease in quality of nighttime sleep for your baby.
The more cigarettes you or your baby's caregiver smoke per day, the greater your baby's chances of developing these and other health problems. Studies show that a baby's risk of SIDS rises with each additional smoker in the household, with the number of cigarettes smoked a day, and with the length of exposure to cigarette smoke.
So give your baby and yourself the best chance at a restful night's sleep and keep your home and your baby's sleeping environment smoke-free. Your baby will thank you and you'll sleep better knowing your baby's risk for SIDS is greatly diminished and that your baby is breathing clean air with each breath he or she takes at night.

Many people try to quit every year and despite their good intentions, many nicotine addicts will already have broken their New Year's resolution to quit smoking. Nicotine is the most addictive drug known to mankind. But the good news, according to the Health Education Authority, is that 1,000 people quit smoking every day.Most people really want to stop smoking before it takes a toll on them in any way and most of us hate the smell of cigarettes on their clothes for instance. Ok, but for many people the main problem is that they have tried to quit before, but their spouse keeps continuing smoking every day. And that makes it hard for everybody to quit. First thing is give yourself some self confidence to quit smoking. How you can do that, is unfortunately beyond the scope of this lense. Second, there is will power. If you truly want to quit it won't matter that your spouse continues to smoke. On the other hand, your partner should be supportive and take it outside for example.
I've heard of people threatening with all kinds of things, if their partner wasn't supportive. Think of things like divorcing, no more sex, etc. I'm not sure if that's the best way, that's up to you.
And further, you need to think of what your lungs look like and remember this when you light up. Think of the years that you could be taking off your life. Think of the last time you really tasted something.
