When I Quit Smoking Weight Gain Was a Big Concern
If you are looking for ways to reduce your cravings, keep the weight off while you quit, and start living an overall healthier lifestyle right now, read on!
Switch to Healthier Foods
You WILL eat more at first - make sure it's nutritious stuff!
The first strategy I used was to totally give in to my cravings for more food. This sounds counterintuitive, right? But here's the catch - instead of snacking on my usual chips, pretzels, crackers, and stuff from the vending machine; I started bringing healthy low calorie foods to work like raw veggies, string cheese, and low carb fruits like berries. The fiber and protein in these foods makes you feel more satisfied, plus you are getting a lot more vitamins and minerals. A lot of experts tell you not to make too many changes at once, but this worked well for me. I figured, while I already have the huge motivation and commitment to quit smoking, why not use that energy to make some other healthy changes at the same time?

Take a Hike
Or the stairs...or park farther and walk...or.....
When I quit last year I was in horrible shape and hadn't been to a gym for a long time. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on fitness equipment, so I just started taking a 20 minute brisk walk around the neighborhood in the morning before I got ready for work. It was so easy and made me feel so good! I can't imagine starting my day without it anymore - my walks are a great time to think about my tasks for the day, take some time for introspection, and burn a few calories before breakfast. I can't recommend enough that you should try to get some physical activity into your daily routine.
These are the real methods I used last year to keep my weight down when I quit smoking, and THEY DO WORK! I hope you will use this information to TAKE ACTION for yourself and make the commitment to a longer term healthy lifestyle. I wish you the best of luck!
