Did You Quit Your JOB to Work at Home? (To make money, that is!)
For the most part, over the years I had been happy with my career as I worked around some wonderful people and the company had given me the opportunity to advance my career and grow professionally. I was treated well and the company was a place you could be proud to work for. It was extremely successful. The physicians were quite well off. Taking nothing away from them, they could not have done it without a great staff and management team.
I found myself becoming bored with HR with all its rules and regulations that were up for interpretation by the courts, and the need to always practice political correctness so as not to offend anyone. It's so not me! Being careful of everything you said and did to be sure you weren't putting the company at risk for a lawsuit can be quite taxing!
Plus, I had a boss who I didn't always agree with and I'm not one to keep my mouth shut. It got to the point where we just weren't in sync.
And then there was the commute. I live in a suburb of Seattle and with no traffic it took about 20 to 25 minutes to get to the office. Well of course, I was coming and going during rush hour so it would take 45 minutes to an hour each way. Some days I'd be away from home 11 or 12 hours. This left little time with my two daughters. I decided to give it all up when my oldest daughter started Junior High.
My daughter is quite social and I really felt I needed to be around during this critical stage in her life. What made it so worthwhile was when I picked her up from school I could immediately ask her about her day. At 7 pm when I normally would have asked about her day, it would have been many hours out of her mind so I would not have gotten much out of her. Plus she plays sports and those games are scheduled right after school. There's no way I could have seen every one of her basketball and volleyball games if I had still been at a J.O.B.
So here I am trying to make a living online and trying very hard not to have to work for someone else ever again. (Except for clients I choose). I plan on writing about moms who have left their jobs to work at home, either on the internet or at another position that allows them to work from home. I am asking moms to write about how they made the transition from an away-from-home job to a job where they make their living from home.
I hope when you see my lens that you will get in touch with me if this is something you would like to help me create. I will send you a list of questions to answer, and of course your name and business will be part of the story.
Work at Home Moms, Share Your Story
How did you make the switch from working an outside job to working at home?
I'm asking moms who have made the transition from working outside the home to being work-at-home moms to help me with an ebook on how they did it. I have a few questions that I'd like answered that won't take much of your time. In return, you will have a link to your site included, (or another type of advertisement for your business), plus a copy of the finished product. If you'd like to be part of this, please contact me.
