The Sixties: Rock and Roll came of age & Doo-Wop died...
From where I sit, rock and roll got its start in the Fifties, and was heavily influenced by Rythm & Blues music - and, if the pundits are right, country music as well.
For me, the Fifties were magic, because that decade encompassed my high school years. By the time rock really got rolling in the Sixties, I was married and struggling to make a living, but the music was always there.
The A-line skirts and bobby sox were fading into oblivion, although the Jitterbug was still in fashion, and the age of socially relevant music and drugs had arrived.
It's said of the Sixties that if you remember them, you weren't there. I was there, and I remember... that's what you get for living right :-)

How to take the quizzes...
Relax, listen, enjoy...

Here's the thing...there are Squidoo lensmasters who take quizzes like this one to collect lots of SquidPoints in a hurry. I'm one of them, and they're all welcome here.
This lens, however, was designed to be enjoyed - hence the inclusion of ten of my favorite tunes from the era. You see, I'd like you to get a taste of the 60s while you test your memory, so please listen to the music while you ponder your answers... it's a lot more fun that way :-)

Question 5

Let The Little Girl Dance
Billy Bland - 1960
This song retains a certain doo-wop flavor, but I consider it rock and roll. Billy Bland left the recording industry in 1963 after releasing a few minor hits.
This song was included not because I consider it one of the decade's top releases - I don't. It's here because it's fun, and because it represents the transition period from doo-wop to rock.

Like many songs of the 60s, this one had a strong Folk flavor, but I decided to include it here because - whatever it was - it was one of the most influential songs of the era.
