This is a dual lens. Lots of fun quizzes that double as my healthography. Take them, have fun, get points, learn, and don't forget to visit the lenses and learn more.

I have done a lot of research reading and experiencing health issues over the years. These lenses are just the beginning of the information. You can't enjoy your wealth, your career, your relationships and old age will be a nightmare.

What About Coconut Oil And Veggie Oils?

  • Shelly Feb 19, 2011 @ 8:53 pm | delete
Guess I'm doing something right! I mostly use olive oil and need to get back to using coconut oil. I do have extra virgin coconut oil in my cabinet. It is great on toast.

High Fructose Corn Syrup

See what your score is, then challenge a friend.

Do You Believe the Hype About High Fructose Corn Syrup?

How did you do?

The industry spends a lot of money to make you believe that its just fine. They sell it to more and more manufacturers so that it is in nearly every processed food.

Do you are agree with me that it is a health hazard?

I read labels 90% of the time (sometimes I forget) but I know we only buy pure juices. We don't have any foods with corn syrup in them so can't say I pay attention to what is what about corn syrup.

Yay (but has anyone looked at any possible connection with 'flu vaccination?).
  • Shelly Feb 19, 2011 @ 8:59 pm | delete
Oh, Margo, I wasn't able to comment on high fructose corn syrup as that guest book is set for members only. Good thing I never use any products that contain it any more.
My mother in law had macular degeneration that was quite advanced. She would have given anything to turn back the pages of time and protect her vision.
  • sousababy Feb 19, 2011 @ 3:14 pm | delete
I worked in ophthalmology for almost 10 years and leading ophthalmologists recommend a healthy diet to SLOW the progression of macular degeneration. Kale and leafy greens being the most beneficial. Some geneticists feel is it 'unavoidable' if you live long enough and carry the genetic marker to inherit it. We are still learning though, much research into this. I am hesitant to draw any 'strict' conclusions since experts are conflicted in ophthalmology (at least, I should note, those in Canada are).

Well, those veggies containing beta carotene (usually orange) were thought to have cancer fighting properties, makes sense their seeds would too. We are STILL discovering things in fresh foods that help. Lycopene in tomatoes also being fairly recent.

Ha, loved this quiz Margo. Even the experts disagree, if only patients knew the wide scope of acceptable parameters in medicine. Medicine does NOT have all the answers. I do however, find that doctors who continually upgrade their education and know their patients well have the most success in treating others. Find someone you trust and stick with them. If what they say 'makes sense' even when it is NOT what you want to hear, stay with them. For our own good, doctors need to tell us the truth...it takes guts. I love my doctors, they don't make me feel warm and fuzzy all the time, they encourage me to strive for better health for myself and my family.
  • skiesgreen Feb 4, 2011 @ 4:26 pm | delete
Yes, but I don't trust doctors because all they want to do is fill you with drugs. I take the alternative route wherever possible.

I'm very careful about not using public pens because it seems like the only colds I've had in the last 10 years has been after using a public pen. Other than that, clean is good enough in most situations. We really don't need to sanitze anything for the most part.
  • sousababy Feb 19, 2011 @ 3:25 pm | delete
Maintaining our normal flora is key. I do not use anti-bacterial soaps. Just warm-hot soapy water should do the job we require. We cannot 'sterilize' the world. Also, when I am sick with a cold, I do NOT take antibiotics, those are for bacterial infections. Colds are viral. I believe in cleanliness but we CAN overclean ourselves. There are healthy bacterial in our digestive system, on our skin and in our environment. Maintaining normal flora is what we need to strive for. Great question Margo!

I gravitate to that which I fear. When I was a kid, almost everything scared me. I was afraid of the dark, of strangers, got sick to my stomach if I had to do a presentation at school. Finally, I had to overcome it. I was afraid of water and drowning. So, I taught myself to swim as an adult. Quite laughable now. But, ever since then, instead of running away from something that scares me . . . I face it, head on.

  • Shelly Feb 19, 2011 @ 9:19 pm | delete
I learned once that reading books on snakes gave me dreams of snakes, that was interesting and rather pleasant for me but when I loaned the same books to a young friend and told him about the dreams, he decided to do his snake reading during the day.
  • sousababy Feb 19, 2011 @ 3:32 pm | delete
We all dream, every night. If we are awoken suddenly (by an alarm, etc) we tend NOT to remember them. We are still discovering the restorative benefits of sleep for both the body and the mind. We need to dream, without it one can have hallucinations, etc.
