Before I moved here, Templeton was just a town I passed through on the way to somewhere else. It's a town most people have never heard of. It has many annual events which are well supported by the community. I can't think of a better place to live. It's roads lead to tasting rooms, parks, and nearby beaches, lakes, the Salinas River, and even a zoo -- all within a half hour drive from Templeton itself.

Templeton is in the middle of North San Luis Obispo County, and only half an hour from San Luis Obispo, itself. It's only a half-hour drive to the Cambria Coast and only a bit farther to the more southern beaches. If you read my featured lenses on Templeton and Paso Robles, you will see what the inland regions have to offer in the way of scenery. A walk around the grounds at almost any winery is worth your time, and in an hour one can hike the Salinas River Trail in Paso Robles. Those are my own personal walks, but I've only begun to scratch the surface of what my county has to offer. The author of this book has taken all 128 hikes he describes in the book -- both coastal and inland -- and has given you all the information you need to get to them and know ahead of time what the terrain will be like, the level of difficulty, and maps with accurate driving and hiking directions. If you aren't sure which hike is right for you, he helps you figure that out, too.
