Are you ready for my quiz on Italian menu terms?
Understanding Italian menus, my second lens on international menu terms. Actually I don't know why this wasn't the first of the series, but then it wasn't meant to be a series and I thought that more people would be interested in French foods. However, the French menu quiz has been quite popular so I have expanded it into a series in the end. Next up will be Spanish menus .
Italian food is definitely my favourite food but my first experience of a restaurant in Italy, I have no Italian, was a voyage of discovery. I managed to order after some difficulty with help from a waiter whose English was nearly as good as my Italian. The results were however absolutely wonderful. I can still taste the lamb braised in balsemic vinegar. This was in a restaurant across the road from the main gates of the Ferrari factory, where I had just been to a meeting for my old company, Rover. But that is a red herring. This lens is about some terms that you would find on an Italian menu, so that if you find yourself in a similar situation to me at that time, you will be able to at least understand some of the dishes on that menu.

Have You Eaten In A Real Italian Restaurant?
We have some fine Italian retaurants in the area where I live, but why do they tend to be so expensive? I only use them very infrequently despite Italian cuisine being my favourite food. For example a quick Indian will cost half as much as an Italian meal. But I treated myself and my wife recently and had the best lansagne that I have ever tasted, I guess you get what you pay for.
But to the point, have you tried real Italian food?

Did you take the quiz? How did you do? I am sure that we would love to hear from you.
By the way do you want another red herring? On that trip to Ferrar mentioned in the introduction, I got to get behind the wheel of a Ferrari....................not allowed to drive it, just to sit behind the wheel of a vehicle coming off the production line. Oh well, such is life, LOL.

- Sometimes I get confused by all the terms at Italian-American restaurants. Inconsistency between restaurants is annoying because a dish will have one ingredient that it won't have in another but they have the same spelling.

- Hi! nice lens! I'm italian, and I found some mistakes in the quiz: "frutti di mare" (not fruitti de mare) is "sea food" but in the quiz you put "horse meat" as correct answer (horse meat = carne di cavallo). Gelato with one 't'.

- 90%, but it should have been 100% because one of the answers is wrong. Fun lens though - thank you :)

My Quizzes On International Cuisine
I have also written a brief lens on why you are offered a taste of any bottle of wine you order in a restaurant. It is not to see if you like the wine but to give you an opportunity to see if the wine has been spoilt in the bottle,so that you can send it back and ask for a replacment if necessary.
