Sgt Bilko Quiz

Ranked #17,282 in Entertainment, #209,847 overall

One of the Top Sitcoms of the 1950's

On just about every list of top sitcoms from the 1950's, you'll find the old Sgt Bilko show. Although "Sgt Bilko" was the title character on this funny military situation comedy from the fifties, the actual name of the show for most of its 4-year run was "The Phil Silvers Show."

Sgt Bilko ran from 1955 to 1959 and was always on my personal list of top comedy sitcoms during those years. Yours, too? Test your knowledge of this great old television classic with this fairly easy Sgt Bilko TV quiz. Sgt. Bilko fans will probably get 7 or more correct. Do Top Sitcoms of the Fabulous Fifties Make You Nostalgic?

Take My Poll!

Do television classics such as Sgt Bilko ever make you wish you had lived in the fabulous fifties? We think of the 1950's as a less complicated time, and in many ways they were. But there was also the Korean War..."The Bomb"...and a militarily powerful Cold War adversary whose leader vowed, "We will bury you!" On the other hand, America for the everyday citizen was a much less cynical place than it is today. While it's fashionable today to knock 1950s sitcoms as being "corny," and unrealistic, early TV shows like "Father Knows Best," "Ozzie & Harriet," "The Donna Reed Show," and, of course, "Leave It To Beaver," presented "ideal" families...something to strive for. On some level, each episode was a morality play. Others like "Topper," "Our Miss Brooks," "My Little Margie," "I Love Lucy?"...and of course, "Sgt Bilko," were strictly for laughs. As a child of the fifties, I loved them all.

How about you? Ever wish you'd lived in the 1950s? Maybe you did!

Best Sitcoms (My Personal Selection)

Here follows my personal selection of the best sitcoms of all time, though not necessarily in this order. . Most of these top sitcoms regularly sent tears of laughter down my cheeks. One, The Dick Van Dyke Show, while very funny and very well-written is included here mainly because of the incomparable Mary Tyler Moore who, in her mid to late twenties was just so damned nice to look at. And to listen to. Is there a guy alive who didn't wish at one time or another that he was married to Laura Petrie? Why, she even called Rob, "Darling," in the middle of a fight!
