Quiz: Spanish Terms on a Restaurant Menu

Do You Understand Spanish Menus?

Are you confident about ordering food from a menu in a Spanish Restaurant?

Of course we all expect the menu to be bi-lingual nowadays, don't we? But on holiday in Spain my wife and I love to visit the out of the way villages and take lunch and dinner with the locals. Contrary to most peoples' expexctations not everybody speaks english and you may need to question the waiter in his own language about the food on the menu. With a few little pointers you may well be able to cope without seeming to be an idiot and ending up with a surprise for diiner.

I learnt the hard way, why don't you be prepared?

What Do You Feel About Spanish Food?

manchega and other spanish cheeses

I love the mediterranean diet and especially that on offer in Italy and Spain. Spain is very definitely my favourite holiday destination however. My money seems to go much further when we are eating out and enjoying the local fare. I especially love the taste of the fresh salads and vegetables which always taste so "bland" at home. I know our supermarkets select varieties on their ability to last on the shelf and look good but what a comedown as regards taste. The ubiquitous spanish tomato on offer in local outlets is usually large and often has lots of green and "scabs" on the flesh but what a taste. Just like a tomato should taste like.

Why Not Try Out More Of My Quizes On Foreign Menus

I have been writing a series on foreign menu terms, only three so far but others will be added asap. Do you have a request? Please add to the comments in the guestbook

I have also written a brief lens on why you are offered a taste of any bottle of wine you order in a restaurant. It is not to see if you like the wine but to give you an opportunity to see if the wine has been spoilt in the bottle,so that you can send it back and ask for a replacment if necessary.

How did you get on with my little quiz?

How did your friend do?

Did you take the quiz? Would you like to share the result with us?

It is surprising how little of us know of foreign food terms, we are pampered by multiple nationality menus. You have seen them outside the big tourist restaurants, pages of the same menu in several languages. But hey! It is only a little fun.
