More new questions March 2011!. Wales is the Land of Song, the country of valleys, the home of erstwhile coal-mining and place of birth of some very influential and famous folk. It is a country within the United Kingdom but now with its own Welsh Assembly.
The official languages of Wales are English and Welsh, the latter being an ancient Celtic tongue.
Wales gives us Snowdonia, the Brecon Beacons, the Black Mountains, Anglesey, mediaeval castles galore, the Preseli Mountains, Welsh Slate and Preseli Blue Stone, which was transported to help build the mighty Stonehenge in England, circa 2150 BC.
A few famous Welsh people of modern times are/were Richard Burton, Catherine Zeta Jones, Katherine Jenkins, Shirley Bassey, Cerys Matthews, Dylan Thomas, Charlotte Church, Tom Jones and Gavin Henson.
For wildlife enthusiasts, there are seals and important sea bird colonies galore.
