Cell phones for people with itchy thumbs
I've always loved qwerty keyboards and I've been always thinking of myself as a fast typer. The classic mobile phones with 12-key pad just couldn't match my passion for typing. Then came the qwerty cell phone - a strange little gadget with a full set of keys. I would vote the qwerty phone as the top gadget development of the 20th century. Yes that's right - it is 20th century. The idea was developed by Nokia back in 1996 when they released the famous Communicator.
However, it was between 2001 and 2002 when qwerty phones started gaining real popularity. Along came the BlackBerry qwerty cell phone, which is now a household name for every fast-typing addict.
This lens is created to pay the due respect to the best qwerty phones. If you are passionate about these gadgets, there's a whole website devoted to Qwerty Phones.

HTC 620
This is my favourite!
Why is HTC 620 my favourite? Mainly because it is a Windows based cell phone. I can easily connect it to my PC to transfer documents, videos and music. Besides its qwerty keyboard is very convenient and precise. After obtaining a HTC 620, I've had no need to use either MP3 player or USB pen drive. It's all built-in. The quality of Windows Operating system is tremendous. I have crashed this device only twice - and then when I tried to misuse it :)
It is a GPRS/EDGE phone with full Wi-Fi connectivity, which means you can read e-mail and browse the web sitting in a cafe or anywhere near a Wi-Fi spot.
HTC 620 is a must-have if you work with Microsoft Office documents. It is a native format for this qwerty phone and you will find reading and editing more convenient.

Palm Treo
This is a classic...
Palm Treo is a transformation of the famous Palm Pilot hand-held device into a potent feature-rich cell phone. It is extremely popular with people used to the Palm Operational system and keeps attracting more new customers who switch from other models.Palm Pilot was a device used by many as a e-book reader and document editor. Nothing has changed. People still use Palm devices to shorten their travel time and to spend boring breaks.
Majority of Palm qwerty phones use their own OS but there are special editions for Windows OS lovers too.
Connectivity of a Palm Treo is almost as good as with any other qwerty phone. It supports GPRS and EDGE. No Wi-Fi unfortunately, but then there is an infra-red port that is important for some people who use infra-red connection to transfer files from a desktop computer.
Motorola Q9
The American Dream
Yet another Windows Mobile based cell phone. Comparing with HTC 620, the Motorola has quite another style, aimed at quite another type of people.Be aware that there are several editions of Motorola Q9. The index "C" means that the qwerty cell phone is available to use in USA only and it can connect only to CDMA networks. "H" is a world-phone with GSM support - it can be used in Europe as well.
Motorola Q9 is another step closer to be a "small PC". It comes with the formidable "Documents To Go" software package, which means you will be able to create new office documents. (This is not possible on a HTC, where you can only import a ready document and then edit it using the phone)
It is a true business phone, that's why its digital camera is only 1.3 Megapixel. Businessmen don't take too much pictures, do they? One of its strong points is the battery life. You can talk and surf for continuous 4.5 hours with a single charge.
Qwerty Phone vs Touch-screen Smartphone
Type or touch?
It all depends on what you want from a phone and what is your own style. Some say that touch-screen phones look better because they have no tactile buttons or very few buttons. That is true, however, the lack of buttons comes with a price of not being able to type fast.
Touch-screen phones have a virtual keyboard displayed on the screen. You need to touch a letter with your finger or a stick. If you are a heavy sms-texter or you need to type large amounts of data, using a touch-screen device will be a very slow process.
A qwerty phone offers you a single key for each letter. That's very convenient - once you get the grips with it, you will by typing very fast.
Qwerty cell phones are ideal for people who need editing documents on the go, participate in Instant Messaging or doing webinars.
