About Rachel's challenge
This girl, Rachel Scott, was very nice and her parents didn't want her to have died in vain. Some even say that she had little predictions of Columbine, but I'd rather not believe that and stick to the important stuff. Anyways, the Challenge is a list of things that Rachel used to believe in.
Why should we care?
I have this theory that if one person can go out of their way to show compassion then it will start a chain reaction of the same.
~Rachel Scott
It's true. Why should we care about the beliefs of some girl who was shot? Well she was really well-liked. I don't just mean she was popular, she had a really good life and was well-liked because of her niceness. The Challenge is really a way of getting us to be nice to each other again.

Change Must Come
People have tried to blame Columbine on various things - even video games. As a society we've tried too much to put blame on scapegoats rather than deal with the reality that we are just not being nice enough to one another. It's important to bring the values of kindness, respect, and honesty back into our lives.

- My 6th grade daughter recently saw this video and although she thought the message was good, she foundt the entire event disturbing. The video contains CNN footage of kids running from the building, replays of hte 911 calls and other news events to hammer home the tragedy. My daughter said many people around her were crying. She also wondered if it was safe to go back to school the next day. I do not believe this video, alhtough well meaning, is appropriate for 6th graders and parents should be allowed to opt-out after given and opportunityto view it themsleves first. Many school systems require parental previewing and opt-out for puberty and sexuality programs, but somehow a program that introduces violence in a school environment is somehow required. I get he point of Rachel's Challenge and obviously she was a very special and inspiring person. I just believe that perhaps 7th or 8th grade, when kids are more regularly encountering the news and have some perspective on tragic events, is a more appropriate age.

- I am a parent of a 7th and 10th grader and personally saw the video today with my 10th grader. I understand your viewpoint on this. Every child is different in how they react to disturbing images~however, I'm sure it was not the intention of the school or the presenters to force the children into viewing this program. It was mentioned during the program that the two shooters were innundated with a violent images (music, TV,etc.) and part of the challenge is to choose a healthier environment~honestly, in today's world, you just can't start soon enough to teach children about what healthy choices are. I'm sure that was the only intention that your school had~please don't be upset with them.

- MTConner,
I had the identical reaction from my 6th grade daughter. She was horrified by the footage and had a hard time getting past that and to the message of the program. I am so happy that someone else is validating my daughter's reaction as I think people are reluctant to be critical of the program as people might see that as being critical of the family or of Rachel. I thought it was innappropriate for 6th grade and I thought that the parents should have been able to view it first, before the kids.

- I just want to say that this girl's extrodinary faith and trust in God has inspired me so much. Just even reading Rachel's Tears makes me feel like im getting closer with Our Father. Rachel's Challenge was one of the main clubs i joined when i lived in alamogordo, New Mexico, but now i moved to Roswell, New Mexico and now im inspired to ask my high school in starting a Friends Of Rachel Club in Goddard High School. Maybe this will make a difference in my school because there is so much prejudice and judgement on Christianity in my school its insane
