Shortwave Radio, the Internet of the Past.
When i was back in school I used to stay up at night on the weekends and explore the shortwave radio band from longwave frequency band to the citizens band on a old Heath kit radio my father built and mounted in a wood cabinet. At first I thought all it did was make weird noise then after a few hours of fiddling with the different knobs I found someone talking, and eventually learned how to tune and use the functions and also found the ham bands. As any kid with an imagination would tell you it's like listening to spys and secret agent stuff.The amber glow the tubes gave off was just enough light to write down any interesting frequency when I found one. The way these radio waves travel enabled anyone on the planet to receive these broadcasts. I put together a list of radio frequencies and television frequencies for use with shortwave radios and police scanners. you can also find cordless phone frequencies or buy shortwave radios. you will find police scanners frequencies, nasa frequencies here as well.. So enjoy these nation wide scanner frequencies and free scanner frequencies. I hope these radio band frequencies will be useful when searching for radio services in your area of the US. They also occasionally publish equipment hacks the most memorable one was the diode snip on the realistic pro 2004 scanner, which restored cellular phone frequencies. Another great magazine is called CQ magazine, which is geared mainly to ham radio operators. A great magazine to learn about equipment.

- nice info.. I used to explore the SW function.. At first I thought I was receiving alien messages and spy signals because of the transmission sound :) but I get sounds from different countries

- it takes some knowledge of usb and lsb and the ability to tune them in so you can understand the communication.

- My dad was a ham. I grew up hearing lots of it. He'd call us in his room to hear conversations with people al over the world when we were little. I had a shortwave radio, but I've lost track of it.
