When i was back in school I used to stay up at night on the weekends and explore the shortwave radio band from longwave frequency band to the citizens band on a old Heath kit radio my father built and mounted in a wood cabinet. At first I thought all it did was make weird noise then after a few hours of fiddling with the different knobs I found someone talking, and eventually learned how to tune and use the functions and also found the ham bands. As any kid with an imagination would tell you it's like listening to spys and secret agent stuff.The amber glow the tubes gave off was just enough light to write down any interesting frequency when I found one. The way these radio waves travel enabled anyone on the planet to receive these broadcasts.
