Radley Handbags
A purse or handbag is designed to hold a number of items such as a wallet, keys, tissues, makeup, a hairbrush, feminine products, or other items. The term handbag appeared in the 1900's, and was used to describe the satchels that men used to carry documents and small items. Designers of women's handbags made similar versions that were more suitable for feminine needs, including compartments for fans, gloves and makeup.
In the 1920's handbags became very popular with the middle classes and designers met this requirement with more variety in terms of designs, materials and colours. The 1940's saw the establishment of the handbag as a fashion accessory for women and an even more extensive range of designs and materials.
The last half of the century saw the introduction of new materials and textiles for handbags, such as waterproof canvas and synthetics. Further improvements in manufacturing processes also meant that handbags could be produced at a much lower cost allowing more people to buy them at affordable prices.
