Raising Money With Raffles
If you've ever been a part of a raffle, you know just how exciting it can be. There is a great thrill about holding a ticket in your hand and hoping that your number will be called. When you think about it, it's much like the lottery system that brings in millions of dollars to states every year. But the states aren't the only ones who can benefit. If you are part of a non-profit organization that is looking to raise money, then selling raffle tickets could be one of your best money makers year after year.
In this lens, I want to share some tips about how to hold a successful raffle as well as point you to the best store I know on the internet to create cheap, custom raffle tickets.

Why Do Raffles Work?
Before we begin, we have to answer this question. Why do raffles work? I believe they work on multiple levels, but let's explain a few here.
1. They Are Exciting - People love having the chance to win something. Compare a raffle to a typical, boring banquet fundraiser and the raffle will win every time. If people have a chance to win, they will be willing to pay more money.
2. People Are Greedy - Let's face it. There's a fundamental reason people buy lottery and raffle tickets time and time again. People are greedy. There is a lot of love for money in this nation, and your organization can capitalize on that fact.
3. It Gets The Whole Organization Involved - From the top down, raffles get everyone excited. No longer are just the board of directors planning a fundraisers. The execution and real earnings from a raffle come from the volunteers. Getting them involved will be sure to bring you success.
These are just a few reasons why raffles work. Keep reading on to find tips of what makes a good raffle and my favorite place to buy custom raffle tickets that can be designed for any organization.

Tips on Raffles
Ok, so you've decided that a raffle is a good idea for your organization. Here are a few tips to make sure you have a successful event.
1. Secure a Great Prize - This is probably the most difficult task of the raffle itself, but once you've secured a great prize, you'll be sure to raise a lot of money. Use your local business networks and ask around. The end of the year is an especially good time to do so because businesses are looking to get tax incentives, and they are in the holiday spirit. Be sure to let them know that it can be a win win because they get an incredible amount of publicity for only one donation.
2. Market!!! - Use every marketing tool you know to get the word out. Social media outlets like Facebook and Twitter are great, and they are free. Craigslist is also a great opportunity and free network. Publish in the local paper or get on the news if you can. You have to get the word out about your raffle.
3. Don't Use a Free Template for Your Tickets - Many people have made this mistake. Trust me, it's a mistake. You can read all about why a raffle ticket template is a bad idea here. Mainly, it's much more work then you realize, and in the end, you actually won't save any money. Leave it to the pros who can create professional looking raffle tickets and have the resources to perform raffle ticket printing in an efficient manor.
4. Motivate Your Sellers - Use a competition for your sellers to get them to sell more tickets. If they are incentivized, you'll be sure to get a greater return. Offer a smaller prize or even cash to the top 1, 3 or 5 sellers.
5. Make It Fun - Be creative! Do anything you can to make your raffle fun, and I promise that it will yield a greater return.
