Why Not Use a Book Themed Gift Basket As a Raffle Prize?

An Educational and Fun Raffle Prize Idea

A book themed gift basket including a best-selling (or classic) book, along with items that go along with the book's theme (such as a stuffed wolf in a White Fang gift basket) makes a very tempting raffle prize.

Note that filling a basket can get expensive quickly, so if you can, try and get some of the objects donated or hand-made.

A "gift basket" doesn't necessarily have to take the form of a basket; any collection of gifts with a great theme will do. For example, check out Crafty Cathie's candy-filled story board. It turned out to be a real success for her; people like things that are unique!

Handy Raffle Ticket Price Calculator

How Much To Charge Per Ticket?

I just came across this handy raffle ticket price calculator in my quest to find ways to simplify raffles. The calculator takes into account the total funds to be raised, cost of the prize and the tickets, and then tells you how many tickets you have to sell at a given price.

For example, if you want to raise $400 on a $25 prize, and you spent $5 on tickets, you'd have to sell 430 tickets at $1.00, or 215 tickets at $2.00. It's up to you to find out if you think you can sell that many tickets at your raffle!

Don't Forget To Get Raffle Tickets!

And Make Sure You Get the Right Ones!

When purchasing raffle tickets, make sure to get the double rolls. You need to have one part that you give to the person purchasing the ticket, and one part with the same number that you keep to enter into the drawing.

Tickets can be purchased online, or at many local stores.

Alternately, you can print out tickets and tear off one end for people to keep. Just make sure you have plenty of time to cut them out!

How to Choose a Good Raffle Prize

Make It Desirable, Focused, Portable, and Simple

Here are the properties of a good raffle prize, and some things to keep in mind:

1.) The most important aspect of a prize is that it must be desirable. Anything that's new, in style, or rare fits this category.

2.) A raffle prize must also be focused on your audience or the specific cause. Will parents be the main group attending the raffle? A toy could be a good idea. Are you fundraising to fight diabetes? Perhaps chocolate isn't the best choice. Choose a prize geared towards the people who will be there to buy the tickets, and keep your purpose in mind.

3.) An often overlooked characteristic of a good prize is that it's portable. Who knows who will be at the raffle? Maybe the middle school principal's cousins from Alaska decide to swing by. They need something they can take with them on their long trek home. In addition, they might not have a Best Buy in their town, so a gift certificate would go to waste.

4.) The more simple a raffle prize, the better. Gift cards can be a great prize, but how often have you lost one, or tried to use it after it expired? Choose a prize that doesn't require a lot of effort to set up or use.

Hopefully, the categories below will help you to find a prize that's desirable, focused, portable, and simple.

im trying to find a good item to raffle off in the 25-50 range we are a high school colorguard trying to raise money for warm ups. we need something appropriate for our age group and what would be a good price to ask for the raffle tickets?

Sounds like a great cause! If you can go up to the $50 point, I'd suggest getting an iPod Shuffle; electronics are often popular. However, this will only work if everyone doesn't already have an iPod or iPhone. Towards the lower end of the price range, you can get really creative, get a basket from a thrift store, and fill it with candy and inexpensive toys. Gift baskets are also super popular. When you do come up with some ideas, I would suggest polling your friends to find out what they'd like the most. I've added a raffle ticket price calculator above, but in general if your prize is in this range, $1 or $2 is a good price. And discounts are always good (if you're charging $1 per ticket, sell 6 tickets for $5 or 20 tickets for $15). Just make sure you have plenty of tickets on hand!
