Windshield Rain Repellent Treatments

There are clear advantages to using a windshield treatment on your car or truck. They cause the water to bead up instead of clinging to the glass, reducing glare and at speeds over 45mph, the water flies off the windshield without need for wipers.

But with so many products on the market, how do you know what is the best choice for you?

After being in the auto glass industry for over 60 years Ray Sands Glass has come to be familiar with all the available auto glass treatments. We definitely have some clear favorites, both with their own pros and cons.

Aquapel, made by PPG, has been our long time favorite. We started applying this product when it first came out as an auto glass service, to be applied by professionals, and customers loved it. Aquapel lasts about six months, through car washes, rain, snow, ice and ice scrapers. It creates a strong chemical bond with the glass, that repels the water.

And since Aquapel forms a bond with the glass instead of sitting on top of it, it doesn't wear off and create a film on other parts of the vehicle. Some other products can create an orange or white crust when the waxy rain repellent products starts to dry out and wear off. This crust can then dry out and permanently damage your wipers and moldings.

Aquapel's chemical bond also allows it to withstand the elements about six times longer than other products. Even as it wears down some of the bonded particles remain so that the new application lasts longer than the one before.

Aquapel also costs a little more, at about 8 dollars for an individual application. But if you are looking for a high performance, long lasting rain repellent, Aquapel is still your best buy.
