Rainwater harvesting systems
Rainwater harvesting is not a new thing. It was practiced at least a few hundred years ago in various parts of the world, including, China, India and certain parts of America. Though this practice is not widespread in various parts of the world, Rainwater harvesting systems are now taking a lot of attention, considering the lack of quality drinking water in areas. Here we are not going to look into the science of Rainwater harvesting, but I try to get into some of the best researches on Rainwater harvesting and a few interesting things about rainwater recycling. Where can the harvested rainwater be used. Is it safe for drinking? is it only for agricultural purposes? Can rain water be contaminated and a lot more. Please note that you should not take this as a final document or a word on Rainwater harvesting. There is a lot more than just this one page about rainwater harvesting systems and rainwater collection. This could just be the tip of the very big iceberg.
Rain water Harvesting Sytem Hazards and Care
It may look very simple on the front. You collect the water and store it in a place where its actually safe from external contamination. Rain water harvesting though has a lot of science in it. The water contaminated may be unusable under a lot of circumstances if not stored well or even if its collected from areas where pollution is high. This could be in high industrial areas where there are plenty of factories polluting air on a constant basis. Contamination during collection is also a major concern for Roof top rainwater harvesting as well as ground rainwater harvesting. As he name suggests Roof top rainwater harvesting is collection of rainwater from roof top surfaces. its does not touch the ground and in most cases is used as drinking water when treated. Roof top rainwater have a good chance of contamination depending on what your roof top is made of. The paint if any and also the surface material affects the water a lot. Sometimes its better to get the water tested if you are not sure before consumption. on the other hand Ground rainwater harvesting has its pros and cons too. Its usually used in agriculture but is suitable for drinking purposes if collected well. Chances of contamination include poor drainage systems and also poor tank constructions which does not prevent seepage.
