Sad Songs-5 classics you need to add to your collection today

When you feel like staying in bed all day, these songs really capture that emotion. I just went through the loss of a relative and Annie Lennox helped me bring out some deep seeded emotion. I felt 100 times better afterwards. Some of these reviews involve the loss of not 1, but 2 groundhogs. I think losing a pet is a difficult grieving process because they become family and most people don't get the support from friends when an animal passes.

I hope these songs can help you get through a difficult time. I included some interesting reviews that I found for each of these selections. Hope you enjoy.

#1 Everybody Hurts

R.E.M.

When I got home that hot, humid July afternoon, I could immediately smell something was wrong. Once I entered my bedroom I saw Buford, my pet groundhog, laying peacefully on my bed. I blamed myself for months. I should have fed him less table scraps and walked him more frequently. This song really helped me during my grieving process. You will be forever missed, my chubby little friend.

#2 Hurt

Johnny Cash

The Nine Inch Nails song is covered beautifully by one the best of all time. The video is great too. (see below) The lyrics really spoke to me, "And you could have it all, my empire of dirt, I will let you down, I will make you hurt." This song helped me through my divorce. My ex-wife and I had been married for 12 years and we had 3 children. She ultimately confessed to me that she was cheating on me with 6 different men during the entire course of our marriage. A paternity test revealed that none of the children are mine. The sad truth is, I would take her back in a second.

#3 Nothing Compares 2 U

Sinead O'Conner

One of the most powerful songs I have ever heard. I had a perfect bowling game going into the last frame. A strike would give me a 300 score. I choked and threw the ball right into the gutter. Bowling has been the only sport I have been good at my entire life. This song symbolizes how nothing compares to a perfect game on the lanes. I didn't leave my apartment for two months after that gutter ball. This song helped me when my entire family gave up on me.

#4 Why

Annie Lennox

When Buford II died tragically by eating electrical wires in my crawl space, I was devastated. He had burrowed himself in there repeatedly over the years. Each time I was faced with a difficult scenario. Should I stick my hands in the wall to remove him, knowing that he would shred my hands with those sharp gnarly teeth or roll the dice and hope that he comes out by himself? That day I didn't feel like going to the hospital for stitches and a tetanus shot, so I let him scurry around in the wall for a few hours. When the digging stopped and the lights went out I knew his high pitched squeal was his last. Annie Lennox spoke to me through this song. Why. Why. Why did I not take him out of the crawl space when I had the chance! I failed you Buford II, my furry groundhog friend.

# 5 Our Town

James Taylor

I really related to this song because I used to work at an adult movie and toy shop. When the government put in a new highway, the truckers and business travelers didn't need to drive past our stretch of the road. Our town was actually happy that my employer had to shut down. I, on the other hand, have not worked since and have become a burden of the state. Our slogan was, "The Ultimate Stop For Smut"

You should have sued your doctor for malpractice. He should have given you a rabies shot, not a tetnus shot. Take it from me. My groundhog bites my hands all the time when I reach into the crawlspace to pull him out.

A fantastic charity

If you have ever been in the neo natal intensive care wing of the hospital, you absolutely know how heart breaking it is to see babies in need of severe medical attention. The March of Dimes is a great organization and any donations would be greatly appreciated.

The mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.
