Poll: What's the Most Annoying Thing To Say To Someone Coping with Infertility

Anyone who has dealt with fertility troubles has no doubt cringed at some of the insensitive - even if supposedly well-meaning - things which have been said to them. It could be a clueless co-worker or friend, or perhaps a pushy relative asking when you'll be giving her a new grandchild or niece to spoil.

when I was going through Infertility treatments I think I probably heard every single one of these statements. People don't realize how badly and traumatic it is when you are trying so hard for something and it isn't happening.. I wish more people would be sensitive to this subject

I get very angry hearing about what GOD has planned for me. When I hear this, I just want to scream at them, but I don't. I have also heard, "Maybe you just weren't meant to be a mother." another comment that makes me angry. Or another comment "You're so lucky you don't have a family and aren't married. You can do anything you want and go any place. It muse be so nice to not have to deal with family on the holidays!" ARRRRGH! shoot me!!!! The insensitivity of people on this subject is so frustrating and hurtful!

None of these are easy to hear when you're in the throes of infertility. It's sometimes hard to remember that most people are well-meaning and saying these things because they have no idea how to respond. I've had some doozies of comments said to me; they all hurt, but I had to make the choice to deal with the pain in a healthy way and not get bitter. Didn't always succeed. ;)

I would break down to just about anything, no matter what anyone said. You just get so emotional. I'm not sure that people who have children understand how emotional it can get. Luckily I have a daughter now.

I agree with previous posters - all of the above! I have friends and family members who struggle with infertility and I know they've cried over having some of the above things said to them. I can't say that I blame them! It is hard to know what to say though.
