Great lens I'm getting a dog soon and this will definitely help me make sure he stays healthy and fit. Very helpful
  • junior8rules May 31, 2012 @ 9:26 am | delete
Very well done, did not know about grapes being toxic to dogs!
  • mizrae May 20, 2012 @ 6:40 am | delete
Excellent topic, particularly after the dog food killing so many of our pets several years ago.
  • readabooki Apr 22, 2012 @ 10:39 pm | delete
I have a whole website devoted to natural cures for pets called Naturesway4pets.com. I totally agree with you about the natural foods for dogs. Love this lens.

I feed my dog with food I make myself and she thrives!

This a great lens with lots of useful information.
  • happynutritionist Apr 12, 2012 @ 9:54 am | delete
This is a very helpful lens, I've tried to feed Aspen our Yorkie as naturally as possible for the 13 years we've had her. She is getting older and due to too much jumping has injured one of her back legs, but is recovering nicely. Love the tips of foods to avoid. *Blessed*

I really loved this. My german shepherd, is starting to lose the use of his back legs and it's so hard to see. I've heard that juicing wheat grass and adding that to their dog food is also useful. I give Mickey a little teaspoon of coconut oil each morning along with glucosamine, which helps a little but I know he still has some pain. Thank you for the great ideas. I must admit I didn't know people fed their dogs natural food, I just thought you were supposed to buy a bag of dog food and that was what you're supposed to do. I've learned a lot recently and this lens has added to my knowledge base. Thanks so much!

Great article. We have a raw food dog, as we also learnt how bad "bought" food is. With thanks and appreciation. Cathi
  • Ladymermaid Feb 9, 2012 @ 7:45 am | delete
You are so very correct. We just presume that commercially prepared pet foods are safe for our pet. How untrue that can be. Going as natural as possible is always the very best way to go. Great article on raising a pet naturally.

Just stopped by once again, I do love your lens. :)
  • davenjilli Dec 29, 2011 @ 10:12 am | delete
I love your lens. We feed our dogs sort of naturally..one of them seems to particularly like porcupine. We keep having to dig quills out of his mouth. LOL We live in the country so our dogs get a lot of raw food.
  • gottaloveit Dec 27, 2011 @ 5:30 pm | delete
I have 6 dogs so I'd have a full time job making natural dog food. I do sometimes mix up my own dog bones though and the dogs seem to like them - of course, they lick the trash can too so how discriminatory is their taste?
  • CritterLover Nov 23, 2011 @ 9:35 pm | delete
Nice lens, Thanks for the information. I enjoyed reading it.
  • cffutah Nov 9, 2011 @ 8:07 am | delete
very enjoyable read I had on your lens this morning, we got our dog about a year ago from the shelter and she is such a joy. happy dog and does well with our four children. easily gave ya a 'thumb up' from this dog lover to another.

Our puppy is only 4 months old but he's been raised on natural and organic products only. Great lens!

No dogs here, but we do have a precopis loottu. and I need to starat reading the ingredients on his food,! Thanks for the heads up
  • SaintFrantic Oct 21, 2011 @ 11:35 am | delete
Lovely dog.I like her eyes. Thanks for sharing
  • goo2eyes Oct 18, 2011 @ 1:49 pm | delete
don't over feed them. people who are childless tend to stuff their pets like foie gras. feeding them with cooked vegetables would do them good.
  • BlueStarling Aug 19, 2011 @ 7:24 pm | delete
It is important to read the ingredients on dog food. Some packaging uses words like "Natural" and "healthy" and shows vegetables etc., but reading the ingredients you find a lot of filler (which can be natural, but that doesn't make it good), and vegetables are way down at the bottom of the list. A good dog food, though expensive, is well worth it! Important lens. If one has a dog, cat, or other animals, it's important to feed them a good diet.
  • Ladymermaid Aug 11, 2011 @ 9:15 am | delete
An absolutely wonderful article on natural pet care. I do not currently have a pet but there is a neighbor's kitty who keeps trying to change that. Lol...funny how cats are all too willing to change homes if it suits them.
  • ebookmum Jul 31, 2011 @ 12:15 pm | delete
    Love this lens :)
  • ArtByLinda Jul 27, 2011 @ 12:51 am | delete
We had a pom that got into macadamia nuts, we almost lost him. Highly poisonous to dogs! Great information fo anyone with dogs, cute pics too!
  • emilyfayth12 Jul 26, 2011 @ 11:58 pm | delete
    hi nice job
  • veryirie Jul 21, 2011 @ 3:11 am | delete
I knew to avoid grapes and raisins, onions and garlic with our dog, but I wasn't aware that macadamia nuts were a no-no. Though we've never given her any of these nuts, of course, it's sure a good thing to know as my husband and I both love macadamia nuts.
I'm ready to really start looking at the ingredients in our dogs food. We buy the "expensive" canned food from the vet to mix with what we thought was quality dry food. Thanks for your informative lens! We want our pet to stay healthy too. :)

    Hi Organic Mom 247,

Really nice lens. And I couldn't agree with you more. Here's an interesting add-in that oxygenates the cells of both people and dogs. It's called the Budwig Diet. Easy to make and has helped reverse cancers, you can find it on http://NikkisStory.com I learned about it when researching for my Standard Poodle Nikki after he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma. He had been on a natural diet from day one, even so...

    Good luck with your lens,
    Best,
    Julia "Nikki's Mom"

Very nice (and comprehensive) lens. We try to use only organic products on our pack of dogs. We don't always succeed 100 percent, but we're working on it.

I love this topic. I have a cat, who is fed organic only food and treats. I buy her food from a local business, so I know and trust them, and it's nice to help out locally as well. It's so much better for our pets, and since they are part of the family, we want what is healthiest for them. Oh, and she never gets sick either. Congratulations on the purple star!

I never really thought about apple cider vinegar, but I think that really makes sense! Well, naturally!
