awesome. My cousin's grandmother was the model for a now out of business maple syrup company that her family owned. I wish I had kept a bottle when it was still selling in stores. I love your story.

Wow, the sun-maid girl. Not only are you extremely talented, but your image has appeared all over the world. That was fun to read. i just wanted to thank you for all the nice comments that you left on my lenses. It's really good to find other animal lovers out there. (funny story; many years ago I lived in Taiwan; I did the voices for many spencer toys; hallmark greeting cards; top gun toys; talking clocks; computer games, etc. And, my son did the commercials for Klenix in Asia back in 1992)

I don't have anything with a picture, but I do have a really old wooden raisin box from Sun Maid that says, "Baker's Wednesday Special" and on the side it says, "Raisin Day puts two Saturdays in every week." It is one of my favorite things. It was actually made into a drawer and I have left the runners and knob on it. I enjoyed your story.
  • d-artist Apr 2, 2012 @ 8:17 am | delete

nice lens, may I suggest that you replace "myself" with the proper pronoun "me" in the caption of you along with the other three gentlemen in front of the giant box .. "myself" is reflexive pronoun and grammatically incorrect where it's placed.
  • d-artist Mar 24, 2012 @ 11:40 am | delete

JUst one queston why on earth did you not recieve any compensation for this? Do you know if Colette Peterson did? It just sounds like corporate men pulled beautiful women into modeling and their face sold the product yet the men wreaped the financial benefits...i may be wrong though.

Hey there... I'm sure that you probably don't log into this account much... but, I thought it was worth a shot. I am related to Violet Oliver (Geissinger), and I was wondering if there was any more information about her. I am trying to do a family tree... and she is definitely a significant member of it... I can't really find too much on the internet. I actually have a modeling photo from the early 1900s signed by her. It's gorgeous. Thanks!

Hi, actually I'm here daily doing my squidoo duties, except if I'm out of town...I don't know if you read what is said under Violets photo, I met a distant cousin of hers on Facebook, his name is Gary Neveln...good luck with your genealogy research, I as well research my family tree..

whoa! this is CRAZY!! i cant wait to tell my dad, he loves little stories like this one that are true. if you ever want to know who got credit for the KFC chicken bucket design and how, he's your man. (well, not really, my mom and your husband probably wouldnt appreciate that very much, but you know what i mean) im glad you were persistant in finding out if the company knew about you. since the creation of this lens, have your readers/viewers found anymore sunmaid stuff for your collection? just curious:)

Hi SunMaid Girl! I just brought down a little red box and showed my daughter, she thought it was so cool, that you "liked" my lenses (me too). Sorry couldn't help it, I love stuff like that. We love to watch "Antique Road Show" "American Picker's" and "American Restoration" and I can just imagine a SunMaid raisin sign popping up some day. I'm glad you wrote that lens and looked into it, because it's a piece of American history that people should know!

  • TedStrutz Oct 17, 2010 @ 10:40 pm | delete
Well, what a great story... did you have to build a new wing on your house to house your raisin collection? I bought some small boxes of raisins a few years ago to put in my granddaughter's lunch when she has a sleepover... she doesn't like raisins, so I still have them!!! I will have a new appreciation for Sun-Maid Raisins now!!!

A really interesting story. Many years ago I was introduced to my now mother-inlaw and was surprised to recognise her as the iconic Surf (Aussie washing powder) girl from the 50's. Although I'm now in possession of the origin print I've yet to wheedle the story out of her.
  • nightbear Oct 10, 2010 @ 11:14 pm | delete

Oh wow, I am so fortunate that the sunmaid gal visited me! Sun maid raisins came to Malaysia in the 80's I think and I always wondered if it's a cartoon or cartoonised from a real person. I never really looked it up because it's always just a thought. :) I am so glad to know that now.
  • Aquavel Oct 1, 2010 @ 9:51 pm | delete
How amazing and wonderful! Regarding image copyright, it's surprising they didn't think of that when using your picture! (And less surprising that they didn't want to admit it). I shared your story with my husband. You are a very beautiful person inside and out. Great lens!
  • d-artist Oct 2, 2010 @ 7:39 am | delete
I'm pretty sure SunMaid did not know of me. It was the artist and he should have thought of it when using me as the image, I'm sure it was not done intentionally...however it did happen, and being part of it I just needed closure for fairness. (I also did a art copyright lens)
  • JeffreyTymczak Oct 1, 2010 @ 10:33 am | delete

Thank you so much for this. I mean really. This is just wonderful. It's like a celebrity-or-a-star-meeting-a-fan effect for me. It was like having an autograph from a star when you commented on my posts. I am humbled really. Why? Because I have been eating those Sun.Maid California raisins and you are the girl on the box! That's just amazing because I am from the other side of the world, very far and it feels like as if I were actually meeting you for real(oh, I thank the day I joined Squidoo). I am just new at Squidoo; and I never thought your dropping by at my posts would lead me to a discovery this wonderful. I'm sorry, I'm star-struck. You are beautiful and nice. And humble too. I am a fan:) God bless you and your family.

Very cool story. I had the opportunity to restore a Gerber baby painting a few years ago. It was a painstaking but rewarding process. The painting was never picked for inclusion on any Gerber products and the image was from 1968. Unfortunately, the baby girl featured died of a rare blood disease before I actually got to meet her, but her mother was happy that I was able to fix the painting digitally and reprint it. As it turns out, the baby's little brother was also my banker... heheh

It's a true honor to be working with the real Sun-Maid Raisin Girl--it's something I never in my life thought would happen to me. And to think that your dad knew Pola Negri and was with her on the set of "Die Bergkatze", one of my favorite Pola Negri movies. Truth is stranger than fiction sometimes...

  • d-artist Dec 6, 2009 @ 11:33 am | delete
yes I did get traffic from bluejay, Thank You! and over 300 hits in one day from Yahoo because of the stupid controversy that is going on because of the TV commercial image...wow people should be worried about World affairs instead of SM image...but this interest might sell some raisins for SM, eh? I also got some vulgar comments & chose not to approve, hope they don't mind...geesh!

That was a fun informative read! Thanks for sharing your story. I began consuming raisins on a daily basis about two month ago after reading that, contrary to what I had believed about the sugary sticky fruit being cavity-CAUSERS, the antioxidants...especially the oleanic (sp?) acid...actually fights cavities and gum disease. I've found raisins and roasted almonds, together, to be an irresistible snack. (Perfect ratio: 3 almonds to 2 raisins.) :)
