Rajasthan - culture, religion, and birds!

Rajasthan is one of the most popular tourist destinations in India. The state, easily accessible from Delhi, is rich in cultural and religious heritage and full of fascinating monuments, museums and historical buildings to visit. But the province is also rich in unique natural beauty, containing 6 National Parks, including world-renown bird sanctuary Keoladeo Ghana located near Bharatpur in the southeast of the province.

Keoladeo National Park Resources

Keoladeo National Park in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, India, was declared to be a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985. I was lucky enough to visit the park back in March, 2006. Unfortunately at that time I was not really an active birder, so I my bird list from those days is not too impressive. Still, I totally enjoyed the wild park, and saw a lot of wildlife, including many different species of birds, plus wild dogs, deer, snakes, and more.

The park is an important bird sanctuary. The wetlands host many transitory birds during their migration, as well as several impressive heronries where hundreds of water birds raise their young during the breeding season.
