"Blessed by a Squidoo Angel"

In April of 2009, I was honored with the status of a Squid Angel. Squidoo Angels are dedicated lensmasters that help bring to spotlight good and passionate lenses and remove junk and incomplete lenses from high lensranking.

Like any Angel, I have been given special powers. The powers to bless and help good lenses and the power to smite bad and spammy lenses.

The power to bless lenses will give lensrank boost to quality Squidoo lens and the power to smite (ding) lowers the lensrank of low quality and spammy lenses.

On this lens you will learn about the Squidoo Angel program, the type of lenses I like and will be happy to bless, the type of lenses I don't like and might ding, meet other Angels and also be able to request an Angel blessing from me.

You have an Angel looking over your lenses! :)

Blessed are those...

Types of lenses I like and will bless

I am an easy Angel. I do my best to look for the good in people and I do the same with lenses. If your lenses show passion, originality, is fun, helpful, well researched, is for a good cause or shows promise of better lenses, then you can be certain that your lenses will be blessed by me.

I like to cheer and encourage people and so I am a trigger happy blessing Angel!

However, your lenses should have the following points covered for me to consider blessing it:

-> No Defaults! Please do yourself and others a favor by changing the default pics and module titles on your lenses. Make the lens your own.

-> Be Original! No copy and paste contents please. When you put your own style and experience to any topic, it provides more value and will be original.

-> Pictures are worth a thousand words and you should use them generously on your lens. Pictures and photos help spice lenses up and also help tells your story.

-> A way to contact you! There should be a way to let people leave feedbacks, suggestions, say hi or let you know that you have been blessed. A guestbook module is great for this. If you do not want people to leave comments, then maybe you can provide your contact email?

-> Be Passionate! Show that you are really into the topic of your lens and not just creating lenses for the sake of creating one. We all know a loved and passionate lens when we see one.

SquidAngel Kim has created a good lenses on what makes a bless-worthy lens and I suggest you hop on there and learn about it.

Dinged are those...

Types of lenses I will ding

I feel really sad when I see junk, spammy and incomplete lenses. I have powers to ding these lenses (lowers their lensrank) and I do this to put such kind of lenses out of sight from top rankings.

If you have the following types of lenses then most likely you will be getting dinged:

-> Incomplete Lenses! No introduction and only amazon and third party links. No personal recommendation, story nothing. Just links, links and more links. Not enough information or information that is neither here nor there. I know these lenses when I see them.

-> Spammy Lenses! Creating 10 lenses the same way to get links to other sites without providing any useful information at all.

-> Violating Squidoo TOS! Lenses promoting illegal drugs and substances.

-> Fully Copied Content! Lenses that have all their information copied from Wikipedia and other sources in its entirety.

Blessing good lenses and encouraging lensmasters to do better work

Kapalbility says:

Is there a way to choose both? But actually I am in into more blessings and less dinging. Blessings do create a boost in confidence too, inspiring the person and others to create more quality lenses. While dinging on the other hand just gives attention to non-quality lenses. I believe in the quote "The reason why it persists is because it exists."

CherylK says:

Blessing good lenses is better. Creating lenses is not easy & most lensmasters work very hard to make good lenses. It's such a good feeling to know that your work has been noticed and is appreciated.

ajgodinho says:

It's a very good question - I prefer to focus on the blessing (positive) aspect and here's why:

If you focus on the light (the blessings), then the darkness will flee. It's like coming into a dark room and just switching on the light. You really focus on the light and the darkness will disappear.

Having said so, I think it's important to give people a chance before dinging their bad lenses. May be write to them a short note that gives them an opportunity to address the lens and accordingly correct things. Give them a deadline (a week, may be) and if it's not changed then ding it, for sure!

I know may create more work, but I think by working with the Lensmasters, it will help them better themselves and the community! I know that this approach will reap good results!

A_RovingReporter says:

Glad I've discoverd another of Rajays' great lenses. Blessing helps breathe new hopes into a Squidooer. I was sort of lost on Squidoo until Rajays blessed one of my lenses and greatly inspired me to the extent I've joined his group to aspire, for the first time, for Giant status. Not sure if I would make it this time round but at least now I'm trying hard. Having a lens blessed will encourage a Squidooer to try for better ones and to self-examine ailing ones. I am glad I've discovered this lens as it will further inspire me to work on better lenses and also send me scurrying to look at my bad lenses.

mulberry says:

Blessing is probably more important. Helping to boost the good is probably more effective than trying to smite the bad.

Dinging bad lenses and lowering their lensrank from top lists and tiers

prosperity66 says:

Blessing or dinging... Hard to make a decision on what I prefer. Well, personally, if you were dinging a lens of mine, I would like to know why you did it and do anything I could to improve its content. I think it's important to produce quality lenses. On the other hand, if SquidAngels had to ding each and every bad lens, they wouldn't have enough 24 hours a day...

Mantelwatcher says:

Hmm....good question. It seems that as an Angel you would have more work to do in dinging lower quality lenses. Kind of a chicken or the egg question.

Rajays says:

I believe that it is a balancing act. It is equally important to ding a spammy and illegal lens as it is important to bless and promote the good lenses. Dinging bad lenses will make it harder for them to be viewed and make more room for better lenses to shine.

susannaduffy says:

Appalling lenses, illegal lenses, DO float to the top occasionally and dinging them away is in everyone's best interest
