While most people would not think of Raleigh, North Carolina as a wonderful and fun vacation destination, travelers who have been treated to the area know that it is precisely that. City Market 

A visit to Raleigh's City Market is a great way to enjoy modern conveniences and products and at the same time somewhat take a trip back in time. The cobblestone street that runs through the marketplace gives a perfectly rustic feel to the area. The shopping area itself was built in 1915 and much of the original architecture is still in place. It is conveniently located just a few blocks from Fayetteville Street which is the main street through Raleigh and is the perfect place to both escape the more tourist associated attractions in town as well as to purchase some interesting and unique food and products.

North Carolina Museum of Art 

A truly unique art museum that charges no daily admission, although special exhibits and performances hosted there may require the purchase of tickets. One of the most unique aspects of the North Carolina Museum of Art is the more than 160 acres of land dubbed the Museum Park which has a trail system that meanders about leading the visitor past an array of outdoor art exhibits that are intermingled with various natural areas including streams and meadows.

Historic Stagville 

For anyone interested in American history, a visit to Stagville Plantation is an absolute must. This historic plantation, located just outside Raleigh, consists of the original plantation residence built in the late 1700s as well as several slave residences that are dated to the early-to-mid 1800s.
