My step-dad became a quadriplegic after a hunting accident when he was 15 years old. For a long time, his only means of mobility was a manual wheelchair. When he finally got his first motorized electric chair, a whole new world of accessibility opened up to him.

Unfortunately, even with his electric wheelchair, many places still remained off-limits for him. Why? All because of something as seemingly inconsequential as a curb or a step. How different things could have been for him if he'd had a portable wheelchair ramp.

However, there are still some situations when being in a wheelchair can leave someone feeling excluded.
