What Are Ramshorn Snails?

All members of the ramshorn group have shells shaped like a thick disc. They only grow to around 2cm in diameter but will reproduce into large numbers quite fast. When kept on mass they are efficient tank cleaners that will seek out food before it rots. Ramshorns and also pick at the algae to help control it's growth.

Breeding occurs when the snails are not yet full size. Ramshorns lay eggs in a jelly coated mass on any surface including leaves or the sides of the aquarium.

As they breed freely the ramshorn is often inexpensive to purchase. Ramshorns for sale will range from a few cents each online up to a few dollars each in pet shops.
