Random Orbit Sanders and Accessories

A versatile power sander suitable for most jobs

Random orbit sanders are sanders that move in a circular motion, but have a bearing inside that randomize the movement to some extent. This helps reduce surface scratching and the need to move the sander in a circular motion as you work.

Many of these sanders have holes in the sanding pad, which are used to suck up any sawdust. The sawdust is collected into on board bag or canister attached directly to the machine. Some will offer a vacuum port, which allows you to hook the sander up to a vacuum hose for even greater suction. Be sure to use sandpaper made specifically for these machines, as they also have these holes. Line up your sandpaper holes with these holes when replacing it.

Often these sanders will also come with variable speed settings, which is great for maximizing your control when sanding. Dial down to a slower speed for putting the finishing touches on a project, or speed it up to remove old finish fast.

These are just a couple of the incredible benefits of these powerful little machines. Check out some of the great models available below.

Porter Cable 343K Review

A review of this random orbit sander from Porter Cable

The 343K from Porter Cable is an improvement on the 333 model, which was a decent sander in it's own right. This sander sports a powerful 3 Amp motor, which provides more than enough umph to get the job done. The rubber grip does a nice job of absorbing the machine's vibration, so your hands do not tire easily. This is a nice improvement from the 333. The dust canister has a tendency to fall off, which was not a problem for the 333. But there is a multi-size vacuum hose attachment, which may make the canister a non-issue for most people anyway. One other change worth mentioning is that the 343K now uses 8 hole sandpaper like most of it's counterparts - which is a nice upgrade since the dust collection system seems to work better this way. Overall, the 343K is the next generation of random orbit sanders from Porter Cable, and is a better product than its predecessor.

Pros:
Comfortable grip
Good power
Reasonably priced
Dust Collection options
Carrying Case

Cons:
Dust Canister can fall off
Extra power may be uncomfortable for some, even with enhanced grip

Porter Cable 7346SP Orbital Sander Review

Porter Cable 7346SP The 7346SP from Porter Cable is an all-purpose sander and polisher made to take your project from start to finish. This machine has all of the features, power and accessories needed to do everything from rough sanding to fine polishing, all while keeping you comfortable.

This sander features a 3.7 Amp motor, which is more than enough power to get the job done. The motor is 100% constructed with ball and roller bearings and spiral and bevel gears. This innovation means less wear and tear over time, so you get a durable machine that lasts. A variable speed dial lets you adjust speeds from 2,500 to 6,000 orbits per minute, ensuring you always have the right speed for the job. Dial up the speed for fast removal of old paint or stain, and turn it down for the final details of an intricate sanding project. No matter what speed you use, the 7346SP maintains its speed under load, keeping you and your sanding tasks on schedule.

The 7346SP is also designed with ergonomics in mind. This machine has a right angle grip, so two handed sanding is possible. The smoother body design is easier to grip, so you can sand for hours on end without fatigue. This sander features an extra large 6 inch sanding disk diameter, which means more coverage in less time. The polisher attachment adds another dimension that most sanders cannot offer. Finish the job right with this add on.

If you are looking for a high quality sanding machine that can do it all, the Porter-Cable 7346SP is for you. Take on a woodworking project from start to finish with this one machine. Move through rough wood fast, refine it at a slower pace with a finer grit, and then polish to perfection with this excellent orbital sander.%uFEFF

Bosch ROS20VSK Review

A review of the Bosch ROS20VSK 120-Volt Variable Speed Random Orbit Sander Kit

The Bosch ROS20VSK Random Orbit Sander is designed to give a professional finish to woodworking projects, even if the person using it is a novice. The pad rotation and orbit is optimized to provide an ultra-smooth finish, and to remove unwanted surface imperfections quickly. A revolutionary pad dampening and braking system from Bosch helps remove one of the biggest problems with orbit sanders - swirls on the wood. This sander easily provides a great finish, with no swirls or lines that are all too common with other sanders. The on-board dust filtering system works great, and the canister twists off for easy disposal. This sander is more of a finishing sander than anything, but adding a 50 or 80 grit sanding pad will blast through old finish, scratches and the like. There really is no downside to this product that we can see. Try one today and find out for yourself!

Hi I am looking for a sander to use at home to update chairs, table and deck rails. I would like to know which sander offers the best value and has attachments for smaller places (ie. chair backs)

    Kerrie,
The kind of work you are describing sounds more suited for a detail sander than an orbital sander. If you are looking for something to get in those tight places without breaking the bank, the Skil Octo may be for you. Hope this helps!
