    Oh, and on checking to see if a site is indexed: I always use the cache operator, figuring that if it's cached, it's indexed. I do believe there may be a difference but I haven't figured out what that is.

    This is helpful; job well done! On indexing, I do two things to get a new page indexed, here or elsewhere ... bookmark with top sites and I ping the page. Works like a charm .. especially on Squidoo which is clearly a site Google likes!

    Hello,
    I notice that the new Seo Quake for Firefox "diagnosis" feature shows Squidoo lenses have a meta description that is too long and too many meta keywords. That might be rough on our ability too rank a lens.

    I am going to try adjusting a lens for these factors to see if there is a measurable ranking adjustment.

    Thank you for this useful info. It's hard to find precise and easy to understand SEO info on the web. Your article is not only valuable here, on Squidoo, but also for building other web sites. SEO is very useful, and it's a must if you're in the web publishing branch, but I always looked it as a fancy spam. Unfortunately, the best SEO techniques are used for the worst quality web sites... Hopefully we'll change this - and that's why I like Squidoo so much. Cheers!

    Honestly you just have to keep at it. Don't let it get you down and continue to make quality posts, eventually you should find that most people have no problem if you back it up with a quality post.

    well yes but it is little discouraging when all your post has been deleted, in-spite of the quality posts, in that way its seems better to just post anything in every discussion site you come across, at-least it doesn't hurt when post is being deleted, and neither it gives any joy on post acceptance

    The main thing about SEO is elbow grease; you have to keep at it even when it's a bit tedious. Oh and I sprinkled a little angel dust over this lens.

    Thank you for sharing this! I read on one part about keyword stuffing and i went to one of my lenses and changed that around really quickly on my lens because i never knew that having too many of the keywords on your lens would make google like it less.

    One doubt, though... I know I have read recently, that since short time, google might be not treating the way it did before the underscores... And that now those or hyphens would be the same..can't remember if read recently from matt or another... You have for sure way better sources and manners to check this, I only tell you in case you wish to be sure on that one :)

    I was skeptical about directory submissions, so thanks for that note. :) I found this lens while I was wondering if there were Google integration tools on Squidoo (i.e. a way to plug Analytics into individual lenses, or a way to use their webmaster tools for an individual lens...).     I still confuse, I checked my lens on Meta Tag Analyzer and it recommends to shorten my Meta description which is an introduction module on squidoo. My question is, why this Meta Lens still have a long meta description?

    Because of the way Squidoo is setup this is unavoidable on most lenses. On most if not all my lenses I will essentially use two introduction modules (the one provided and a text module underneath it) to stay under (or close to) the150 words.

    As this lens was more directed to the Squdioo community as oppossed to squeezing every last rank out of search engines I decided a larger introduction suited this lens. I hope that answers your question.

    Heres a better example of a meta description on this lens: http://www.squidoo.com/funny-sites
    It ranks number 1 on google for "funny internet sites"

    To many people fall in to the trap of using black hat methods when trying to rank well in SEO but google is not fooled and very quickly will realise what you are doing and your site or lense will get blacklisted making it very difficult to ever get ranked well again.

    This I know from many years of SEO! Black hat may seem like a easy cheap option but in reality the only way is to learn good SEO your self or get help from helpful people like this lens master!

    Im glad you noticed that Omarabid, the simple reason is that i dont target that keyword. Its over populated. Do a search for 'how to get your LENS on google' and you'll find im ranked top. :)

    Im helping people with lenses and not websites (although most techniques apply to both)

    This used to be the case with directories, however Google changed its algorithm to reduce the boost provided by directories. Because they are easy links to get and can be easily spammed. By all means submit to a few directories, but your really just wasting your time.

    Thank you and I've favorited so that I can refer back. One question about directories: Surely their backlinks are of value even if they don't refer much traffic - or is this not the case? A super lens.

    Good stuff!

    I follow a lot of this with some of my Lenses, and do well on the ones that I do. I see a few things I haven't tried yet -- I'll try them and see if they help with the ones that have a lot of competition! Thanks for posting such a great resource!

    This lens is full of great information and I have to keep coming back to take it all in. I also wanted to let you know that I have started a series of Module lenses and am featuring this lens on my A module lens as a thank you for the personal time you gave me a couple of months ago. I still have a lot to learn, but you have taught me an awful lot and this is one way I wanted to say thank you.

    Good stuff. I got my Sarah Palin lens number one for sarah palin trivia. Squidoo is a powerhouse when it comes to getting on google, and I like posting mine in forums.

    My lens seems to like moving between #95-#105 lensrank it just refuses to stay in the top 100! Thanks for the 'thumbs up'
