The Madonna di San Sisto is also called as The Sistine Madonna is one of most famous oil painting by Raphael or Raffaello Sanzio, a greatest Italian artist of the High Renaissance period. This painting completed shortly before the death of Raphael in between c. 1513-1514. It was commissioned by the Benedictine monks of the Monastery of San Sisto in Piacenza such as their altarpiece. Form all of the painter's Madonnas, the Sistine Madonna was the last painting and also the last one which its be completed with Raphael's own hands.
Composition of Sistine Madonna
Madonna is holding the "Child Jesus" and bordered by Saint Barbara and Saint Sixtus in the painting. She stands on the clouds above two winged cherubs (Putti) rest on their elbows, a prominent and famous element within its painting.
