Becoming Debt Free

Have you been plagued by debt for too long? I know exactly how you feel. Are you ready to be free of it? The hardest part is getting started. Hopefully the information on this lens can help you. Good luck and I will meet you on the other side. The Debt Free Side!!!

First Step - Motivation

The first step in getting rid of your debt is motivation. So, here are 5 good reasons to get rid of debt.

First, you will have less stress in your life. With less stress in your life, it can improve your relationship with your spouse, children, family and friends. Less stress can also improve your health.

Second, you will have more money to invest in your retirement and/or children's college fund. Can we all say "early retirement".

Third, it could mean more time and money to devote to your hobbies.

Fourth, it could free up time and money for you to work towards your dream career.

Lastly and most important, you can be a good example for your kids. You can teach them how to stay debt free.

Second Step - Know what debts you have

The second step is to know what debts you have. I mean really know what debts you have. You need to know your outstanding balances, interest rates, and monthly payments. You need to get organized and know what debt to pay off first. A program that has helped me to do this is the Rapid Debt Reducer Software. You can check it out here!

Third Step - Reduce your expenses

The Third step is to reduce your expenses. Any money that you save on other expenses can be put towards paying off your debt. Here are some ideas to help you out.

No more Starbucks or at least limit it to once per week. You will save a good bit of money by brewing your own or drinking the FREE coffee at work.

Bring your lunch instead of going out.

Reduce the amount of time you go out to eat for dinner. When you do go out look for coupons and specials. There are alot of places where kids eat for free.

Plan your meals and make a grocery list when you shop. Use the weekly specials and coupons to help you save money.

If you smoke, stop. It will help you save money and improve your health.

Give up the gym membership and exercise at home.

Carpool to work.

Give up any unnecessary expenses. Example: getting your nails done.

Sit down and brainstorm. I am sure that you can come up with more.
