Rasputina is a cello rock band which was founded by lead singer Melora Creager. Rasputina's music can be off-putting to the uninitiated due to it's unique cello based format, but many people tend to find it exceptionally beautiful after they've spent some time getting used to it.

Melora Creager began playing the cello at the age of nine. She soon fell out of practice for several years until she decided to pick the cello back up while she was in college. She played as a touring cellist with alternative rock bands including the Pixies and Nirvana.
Melora felt that the cello was a beautiful and touching instrument, and worked well in a rock band. She was dismayed that every band she played with kept the volume of her cello lower than that of the lead guitar. She decided to start a different kind of rock band which was made up entirely of cellos.

Melora feels that she is constantly improving her sound. I couldn't agree more. Nowhere is this more evident than in Raspitina's latest album Oh Perilous World. A concept album that tells the story of the world's modern peril in the form of an alternate history of the 1800's. Although you have to spend some time with this album to fully understand and appreciate it, it is well worth the effort. This is music at it's finest.
