7 Reasons Why Rats Deserve to be Pampered
Buy them a hammock to show you care.
1. They are always there to nibble your ears and make you laugh when you need to cheer up.2. They warm your lap as you sit and watch TV.
3. They entertain you with their funny hopping run and their silly games.
4. They chatter to you about all the things they have done that day, even though they know you don't understand. They know you like the sound.
5. They run up to their cage door to greet you.
6. They help you clean up the house by hopping away with bits of fluff and crumbs and taking them into their house.
7. They love you.

How To Make Your Own Rat Hammock
Because they are worth it
Just use a piece of comfy material like polar fleece from an old jumper, or buy some from your local material shop. Cut out a nice piece big enough to accommodate your rats, for a snooze and use paper clips to attach each corner to a corner of the cage, or to make it a bit more sturdy you can cut a little hole in each corner and thread some string through.Your rat will love to sleep in such a comfy place, especially when it's cold.
You can also use an old woolly hat or comfy pair of socks as a hammock, anything cuddly really.
At the moment it is really hot here in Oz, so my boy's hammock is made from an old lightweight T-shirt. They just love it. I also have a fan on them all the time, but if they get too cool, they can hide away,
Another snuggly place for your rat to hide in and explore is a flower pot filled with hay. They will love to make a little nest in there, when life gets a bit too stressful.
How to Keep Your Rats Entertained
What to do when your rat's aren't relaxing in their hammock

1. Scritch and Scratch - Yes ratties just love to be tickled. I swear I can hear my little ones giggling as I scratch them on the belly.
2. Tunnels and Tubes - You can make tubes out of card, fleece, poster tubing and even those terracotta tubes from the garden centre. A great place for your rat to play hide and seek.
3. Jingle Bells - Some of my rats just love small balls with a bell inside. You can buy them from a pet shop in the bird section.
4. Swimming - In hot weather you can run a shallow sink of water (about 5 inches) and let your rat have a swim. Some rats love this, others don't, but you will soon be able to tell. Put your hand in there and they will chase it around.
5. Just let your rat sit on your shoulder as you walk around the house. Rats just love to know what is going on. I guess it is like TV for them. Plus, you will probably get your ear tickled as you walk around.
6. Lay pieces of toilet paper or newspaper about the room and watch as your rat gathers them up into a nest. They just love collecting and hoarding and it is fun to watch them hop like a kangaroo holding the paper.
7. Chasing your hand - Make your hand into the shape of a spider and play chase with your rat. Gently tap your rat on the bum and then make your hand run away. It will soon turn into a fun game of tag.
8. Pea Fishing - On hot days give your rats a bowl of water and put in some iced peas. They will love fishing them out and it will help cool them off. I have to do this a lot in Australia!
9. Use your imagination - You will be surprised by how active and playful your rats can be. Just try out different games and see what they take to.
