The Rockies

Aerial Photography

This was photographed while taking a flight out west around 1997 it shows The Rockies peeking through the heavy cumulus cloud layers. It was originally shot in color but I decided to convert it to Black & White in Photoshop because of its bold contrast and depth.

Taho Rocks

Lake Tahoe Nevada and California

Photographed along Lake Tahoe in 1997 using 35mm film.

Operation Moonlight

3D Digital Art

I have always enjoyed aviation art and with Vue6 Infinite I can now create somewhat realistic images that I have in my head, the World War 2 era has always sparked an interest in me as well as cinematic films produced with the same theme.

Operation Moonlight was created with cinema in mind I tried to capture the perspective as well as the old film look of the day using the old WW2 bomber models that came with Vue6.

Twin Palms

While cleaning out some old files last week I was fortunate to dig up some old Infrared film negatives that I took back in 1995 in Key West Florida.
As of November 2007, Kodak High Speed Infrared film was no longer manufactured and from what I understand some roles can still be found on the streets.
This image was taken in midday and shows the unique characteristics of the film after its processing, using filters or not the film can produce different effects sometimes better then expected.

Ocean Shell

Wrightville Beach, North Carolina

I don't consider myself a beach person, though when I do go it's usually off season or in the winter time when the beaches are about empty and walking on the sand for miles a favorite past time that gives one a peace of mind.

Photographed in 1983 with 35mm film.

Lover's Leap

This was photographed in 1979 at Lovers Leap in New Milford Connecticut which lays on the Housatonic River, though the main road has been closed since the 1980's when it became a State Park hiking can still be done with its trails up to its ledge, the river is also popular with kayakers and canoeists from all over.

Touching the Clouds

This was photographed with 35mm film in Montana while visiting the area in 1997, the eye follows the terrain and trees up from the bottom towards the top where the blue sky and clouds appear to touch the mountain.

Midwest Landscape

This was photographed somewhere over the midwestern states, the river with its winding path leads the eye through the textured and colored terrain while the clouds create the mood.

Photographed with 35mm film.

Rocky Mountain High

Having your camera with you most the time comes in handy especially while flying, this image taken while on my way out west in 1997 was one of my favorites aerial shots, the clouds and snowy textured mountains adds quite a bit of interest to the photograph while the colors and composition gives it balance.

Photographed with 35mm film and Pentax camera.

Valley of Light

Logan Pass

Photographed in 1999 at Glacier National Park from the famous Going -To -The - Sun Road which in itself is a National Historic Engineering Landmark that weaves its way through The Continental Divide.
Shown here is McDonald Valley as the sun casts its beams of light like a stage of a play.

Photographed with my Pentax using 35mm Kodachrome 64 slide film.

The Apollo Rocket

This was photographed at Kennedy Space Center in 1979 while visiting Florida for the first time, the rocket laid housed fully assembled on its own platform as shown in this outside exhibit, my idea was to give it a vertical or free floating look while keeping it as a horizontal image.
Photographed with 35mm Kodachrome 64 slide film.

The Apollo Engine

This is the Apollo's powerful rocket engine that led it on its journey to fame.
Photographed with 35mm Kodachrome 64 slide film.

A Georgia Farmhouse

Part of the Abandoned Places Series

On my drive home to Florida from my visit to the mountains of Georgia and North Carolina in the autumn of 1996 I made a detour off the highway and took the back roads to see Andersonville where the confederacy had their prison camp during the civil war and made famous by the HBO movie by the same name. The area untouched by time and its surrounding landscape had a great recipe for capturing images, this particular shot was taken with a 35mm Pentax camera and Inferred B/W film which intensified the mood I wanted to convey, The house and barn were probably built in the late 1800's by the looks of their style and the windmill was used for the pumping of water from the well below that saved on extra labor.

This was always one of my favorite shots with inferred film.

Honor

A Memorial

This is my tribute to all veterans around the world.
Photographed at the VA National Cemetery in Florida, September of 2007.

The Old Mule

An antique McCormick-Deering tractor

I would be the first to admit that I have obsessions with antique objects, to be more specific vehicles, trains and farm tractors to name a few, take this early 1920's McCormick-Deering Tractor that had its own unique claim in US history and with sales around the world, its steel wheels, crank starter, pulley system and kerosene fuel engines gave these tractors plenty of horsepower to help revolutionize farming in those days.

I was fortunate to run across this beauty while visiting Montana back in 1997, what was so special about this shot was the old white barn with its worn crackled finish and a little bright red window that added a dash of complimentary color to the backdrop.

Finding such treasures usually is as easy as a pleasant drive to the country with your camera in hand, old farmhouses and barns are always an added bonus as subjects.

Saint Marys Lake

Glacier National Park, Montana

One amazing view while driving around Glacier National Park in Montana was Saint Marys Lake, it is the second largest lake in the park the first being Lake McDonald, the small island near the middle right of the photograph is known as Wild Goose Island.
The lake is located on the east side of the park and sits at an elevation of 4,484 feet which is 1,500 feet higher then Lake McDonald and much colder due to the altitude difference, its length is about 10 miles long, its waters 300 feet deep and rarely rises above 50 degrees Fahrenheit during the summer season, it is also known for its many different species of trout.

A must see if ever in the region and don't forget your camera.

Life after Death

The Journey

While strolling through a cemetery somewhere in North Carolina a few decades ago I ran across this unique grave site where as you can see the tree rather aged itself grew out from under the stone as if the soul from the young boy who is buried here passed on through the root system and into the life of the tree. Though this was photographed with color film originally I thought the monochrome would be more fitting especially with the age of the gravestone.

Lonliness

Probably one of the most unusual but beautifulest places I have ever visited was Pyramid Lake Nevada with its bare mountains and islands of rock that stand upward like castles in a dream, it's located about 40 miles northeast of Reno and has among its barren desert landscape an impressive collection of rock formations known as Tufa that can be found along its banks but what I really found interesting were limited amount of trees that sprouted upward along its desert sand and sage. Being from the east I found this area to be a treasure not only because of its rich geological features but because of its history, wildlife and Indigenous culture that entails this region.

Desert Morning

I'm finding that producing computer generated images are as much fun and creative as photography and the same design principals apply as does with any art form.
Desert Morning was produced with Vue6 Infinite 3D environmental software (Vue7 has recently been released) and some minor tweaking with Photoshop but the ability to control the software's camera and lighting makes this a priceless tool for any artist especially one who may have an interest in matte painting or the environmental arts. I guess being fascinated with movie making my whole life led me into the direction of both photography and now the environmental arts.

Loved all of the photos but most especially the Georgia Farmhouse, it touched me. You have a wonderful gift of seeing the photo before you ever take it. Not all of us can do that.

Thank you Pastiche I really appreciate your positive comment, the image was cropped to how you see it now, I felt it would be more compelling to tighten it up and lose the trees in the background so that the focus would be solely on the headstones and their settings, it is almost abstract in appearance yet carries the impact of the theme.

I studied all your photos, but the VA cemetery really stopped me. Graphically exquisite - conveys the message dramatically. Should be a Mem Day poster in tribute and memory.
