Ravenous Birds

I have vivid memories of ravens swooping down on the corn fields of my great grandfather's farm. Those fat ears of corn were just too irresistible for those hungry birds.

Ravens scavenge much of its diet from carrion; they also eat rodent, eggs, nestlings, and grain. When food is scarce, they may feed on garbage near towns and cities. They are also known to eat the leftovers that larger predators leave behind.

Ravens are a common sight when you live in the country. Vegetable gardens, chicken coops and feed bins offer an abundance of food that is irresistible to a hungry raven.

Let's take a closer look to discover more about these predatory scavengers.

Ravens Mentioned in the Bible

Genesis 8:6-7 - After forty days Noah opened the window he had made in the ark 7 and sent out a raven, and it kept flying back and forth until the water had dried up from the earth.

1 Kings 17:3-6 - "Leave here, turn eastward and hide in the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan. 4 You will drink from the brook, and I have ordered the ravens to feed you there." So he did what the LORD had told him. He went to the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan, and stayed there. The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the brook.
