The Enjoyment of a Good Book
If you found this lens, then you most likely have a fondness with reading. I love books as well. This will be where I put down my thoughts on the latest book I am reading as well as those I have read since the creation of this lens. (I will spare you from my ramblings and myself from a headache by going back any further).
I sure hope you enjoy!

Heart Shaped Box
Joe Hill
So far it is interesting. It is a bit on the dark side of things. Ghosts and disturbances.Jude is loosing his mind with the help from a spirit. Not only has he scared his current girl Georgia, he has also permenently damaged his old girl Florida (her name is Anna) and she commits suicide. Now Anna's step dad is after revenge... from the beyond. Jude has unintentionally nearly gassed himself.
I am about 100 pages in. I know I have been slow with this book. I am sorry. School just started and I am getting back into the swing of it all.
The Other Boleyn Girl
Philippa Gregory
This was an amazingly captivating fiction story based on real people. As long as you keep in mind it is a fiction story, it is easy to get wrapped up in the world of the Boleyn siblings. When Mary's sister Anne comes to the English court, all eyes are turned her way while the King rests his mind on Mary. After Mary carries 2 children for the King, he starts favoring Anne. The Boleyn family starts pushing Anne further and further until there is total disruption in the court.
Anne raise to the throne is short lived and her fall is just captivating.
The Undomestic Goddess
Sophie Kinsella
This is a great book with a very unique plot. To watch the life of this young lady unfold as she tries to change and learn the ways of a life she never would have dreamed herself living, I did have to sleep sometime.Samantha is a promising lawyer. She overworks herself and is proud of it. Until one day that she has discovered a mistake she made. She can not remember when she recieved the business and fears reprimand, not only from her superiors but from her mother as well. She walks out with no idea where she is going. She finds herself in a nice country home being hired for a housekeeping job.
It is entertaining watching Nathanial help Samantha squeek out of situation after situation while learning a new and slower lifestyle. One which she finds that she enjoys. Maybe.
Wicked
Gregory Maguire
A new look on the Wicked Witch of the West and how she got to be so evil. Or at least what really happened. This book gave a new twist to an old classic.Really slow at first, you learn of the trails of Elphaba's childhood. Her father is a religious man and travels the countryside. Her mother is from a regal lineage. As she grows up, you go with her to school where she meets Galinda (who later desides that Glinda will do just nicely) amongst several other people. Then further into adulthood when she becomes all but a recluse and her veiw on what happened in the Wizard of Oz.
The beginning of this book is slow but it does get better as you get further in. Overall not a bad read.
Garden Spells
Sarah Addison Allen
This book had a great sense of suspense and romance. But at the same time was not overly mushy. Fool-hearted love and a shy fling that kept me craving more. The sisters go through several trials they each need to overcome seperatly, but without each other, things would not have worked out.Claire Waverley, a caterer, living in her grandmothers house, is pretty much afraid of love. On the other hand, her sister Sydney, lives her love life dangerously and is now running away from it all.
This book drew me in from the first chapter and was near imposible to put down.

When Dorothy triumphed over the Wicked Witch of the West in L. Frank Baum's classic tale, we heard only her side of the story. But what about her arch-nemesis, the mysterious witch? Where did she come from? How did she become so wicked? And what is the true nature of evil?
Gregory Maguire creates a fantasy world so rich and vivid that we will never look at Oz the same way again. Wicked is about a land where animals talk and strive to be treated like first-class citizens, Munchkinlanders seek th...

Judas Coyne is a collector of the macabre: a cookbook for cannibals . . . a used hangman's noose . . . a snuff film. An aging death-metal rock god, his taste for the unnatural is as widely known to his legions of fans as the notorious excesses of his youth. But nothing he possesses is as unlikely or as dreadful as his latest discovery, an item for sale on the Internet, a thing so terribly strange, Jude can't help but reach for his wallet.

I read Wicked and loved it. Definitely not for kiddies. I read L Frank Baums original OZ series a child and loved them, too. Wicked was like returning to an old place I visited often a kid and hadn't returned to. It is all changed from the perspective I had when I was young. Posted May 21, 2008 |
