What Does The Raw Food Diet Consist Of?

Raw foods have been around since the beginning, but dietary plans and programs that focus on the health benefits of a raw food diet are relatively new, and their popularity seems to be on the upswing. With obesity and disease statistics on the rise, it is no wonder that people are changing to a raw food diet to decrease their risks of getting sick and increase their quality of life. But many people may wonder, "What can I eat on the raw food diet?" After all, the word "raw" conjures up all kinds of ideas in people's heads. One of their first thoughts may be sitting down to a plate of sushi or other raw meats.

What does a raw food diet consist of? It is made up of fresh whole fruits, vegetables, fresh juices, legumes, seeds, and nuts. Ideally, these foods are organic (raised naturally, without fertilizers, chemicals and pesticides), and they are served in their raw form, not cooked, as heat above the 107 - 118 degree range kills the beneficial nutrients and enzymes that the foods contain which aid in the digestive process. Because of this, raw foods are sometimes dehydrated (rather than cooked) to retain these essential nutrients. This, in turn, produces more energy and promotes better cellular nutrition.

There no disputing that the average person does not consume enough fresh vegetables and fruits in their diet in order to maintain the self-healing ability of the human body, and so any changes in the raw direction will offer substantial health benefits to most people and improvement to their level of nutrition.

The benefits of changing to a raw food diet can include the following:

The reasons for changing to a raw food diet are convincing, but most people are reluctant to make the change because they think they would miss meats, carbohydrates, and sweets.     I know eating all vegetables would be best for me, but I'm not that disciplined to stay on it very long. I am making improvement in eating more vegetables in my diet at the present. I do feel better when I eat healthier and I've lost 15 lbs. since I started doing it.

    Thanks for your comments! I think this is a subject that many people should spend some time learning about. The health benefits are tremendous, and I know I just FEEL so much better when I eat raw food. I encourage you to just make small changes and see the difference. I am by no means a raw foodie at this point, but I do know that when I make better choices, I can see and feel the benefits! Please rate my lens at the top under the title... :)

    I know it would be hard for ME to go 100% raw, but I would love to try some of these recipes! The videos are very informative and I know after seeing the results of the testimonials that it would be great for weight lose! Wow! Just like anything else though, it will take disipline, but boy what a payoff if you feel better and live a longer and healthier life!!!
