Raw Food 101, My Version
This isn't some hippie fad diet your weird cousin got into while chanting with Hare Krishna's in Berkeley. This raw food thing is serious business! It is about eating the most healing & amazingly tasty food on the planet. It's about not being dependent on prescription medications or being some health CEO's bitch. It's about letting go of the day to day anxiety of disease, calorie counting & dieting. And most importantly, it is about freedom.
F**k being sick and tired of being sick and tired. I say we reclaim our personal health and have a damn good time in the process!
Who the heck is this kid and what does he know about health?
Reclaiming your health means doing something that works. And what works will always be different for everyone.
What I'm trying to do hear is point to a few simple foundations that seem to make a lot sense to me, and hopefully (if I explain them properly) to you as well.
Remember, health is simple! Sometimes challenging, yes! But NEVER complex. By educating yourself you can cut out the expert middle men and do what's best and what works for yourself.

Raw Food 101 - (The Wikipedia Version)
Here is a good place to start.
Most of the foods consumed in a typical vegan raw food diet are fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds. The exact definition of raw food varies, but the general consensus is that a food is considered raw if it has not been heated to more than 115 degrees Fahrenheit (46 degrees Celsius), and if it has not been frozen.A raw foodist is a person who consumes primarily raw food. There is some debate over what quantity of raw food intake actually identifies one as a raw foodist. Most can agree that if someone eats 75% or more of their food as raw, they are a raw foodist, although there is evidence that when one consumes 100% raw food, their assimilation goes up considerably.
Advocates claim a decrease in raw foods in our diet that has caused an increase of asthma, allergies, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, learning disabilities, depression, candida, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, and many other conditions.

Insightful Introductory Articles of Raw Foods
- Is cooked food good for us?
- By T.C. Fry
In nature all animals eat living foods as yielded up by Nature. Only humans cook their foods and only humans suffer widespread sicknesses and ailments. Those humans who eat mostly living foods are more alert, think clearer, sharper and more logically and become more active. Best of all, live food eaters become virtually sickness-free! - Why Switch to a Living Foods Diet
- by Roxanne K.
Living foods are the key to our health and longevity. They allow our bodies to perform as they were meant to. Our bodies have evolved over a four million year period. For 3,950,000 of those years we ate only raw, living foods. It is only recently that we have begun eating cooked food. When we look at other mammals in nature, we do not see any significant incidence of the diseases that have become pervasive in humans. No cancer, heart disease, strokes or diabetes. - Return to Paradise
- by David Wolfe
Many have spent lifetimes wondering what caused humanity's "fall from grace." What has caused humanity's disconnection from living in a natural paradise? Why is civilization out of balance with Nature? These thoughts are often triggered by a study of the classical, legendary, or religious stories of a former perfect age.

- Why Discipline Doesn't Work
- Occasionally we get desires to do things that we intellectually don't want to do. When it comes to food, these desires show up as cravings. Often these cravings are for foods that aren't usually the healthiest. Most of us have been taught that discipline is a great way to "combat" these cravings.
- Raw-Food is not "it"
- One of the challenges that many rawfoodist go through is holding on to the belief that raw-food is "it". Raw-food is not "it".
- Not Perfect, Just Real! (Sarma's debut)
- This is my first blog post ... ever. What to write about? Writing a whole book somehow felt less daunting, though when it was finally published I could not believe that all those words, written during delirious late nights in front of the computer, were out there in print, and that anyone would even care. The most heartwarming part is that it seems people do, hence this blog.
- That's funny, you don't look healthy?
- When David Wolfe was a young'n, who was just starting to scratch the surface of real health, there were a lot of authors and self-proclaimed experts who were ready to throw in their two cents on what worked and what didn't. With all the chatter in the air, it was hard to decipher from what was real and what was agenda based. So David, being the smart raw-cookie that he is, came up with a little trick.
- Getting better & worse all at the same time
- One of the deepest indications that massive transformation is imminent is when circumstances, (be they personal, national or global), look like they are getting better and worse all at the same time. Huge juxtapositions always tip the scale. Sometimes the scale is tipped on the side of consciousness, other times the scale is tipped on the side of unconsciousness.

If I were to make only one change to an otherwise average diet, what should I do?
by David Wolfe

Want more than one change? Okay... keep reading!

2) Next I would begin to incorporate one organic salad into the diet each day. This provides roughage and alkalinity to calm the body and mind.
3) Another step, would be to include high-quality fats and oils into the diet, such as: flax seed oil, hempseed oil, and coconut oil. These oils will help to restore cellular membrane balance, return omega 3 fatty acids into the diet, and lubricate the joints and tissues.
4) Next I would include supplemental digestive enzymes with every cooked meal to aid with the breakdown and utilization of the food. Enzymes are not found in cooked food. They are present in raw food. Enzymes are catalysts that allow food to break down more efficiently.
