Michel Leah, a.k.a. The Raw Artist®, is a self-taught, outsider artist from the midwest. While Michel has been creating art in various forms throughout her life it was not until 2003, after having reversed several serious health conditions, that she started creating her art on a full-time basis.
Michel's brush name, The Raw Artist®, holds two meanings. Her trademarked nickname pertains, in most part, to her raw food lifestyle; the lifestyle that she attributes to saving her life. But her alias, The Raw Artist®, has a second meaning as well. It also refers to the very nature of Michel's art. Michel has had no formal art training. Michel is a self taught artist that marches solely to the beat of her own drum.
Michel Leah

In June 2003 Michel started selling her works online via her web site and through eBay's self-representing artist's category. In under a years time Michel became an eBay Gold Powerseller ($10,000+) monthly. In under two years time Michel achieved Platinum Powerseller ($25,000+ mo) on eBay with the sales of her artwork. Through the international exposure of eBay, The Raw Artist's works are included in over 700 hundred private and corporate collections throughout the U.S., Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Chile, London, France, Italy, Austria, Portugal, Greece, Norway, Malta, and other European countries.
Chastised by some in the art world for her choice of self-representation, Michel admits she has no regrets. "Look... I'm a living artist making a six figure income doing what I was born to do.. create. I'm blessed! If I have to promote myself so I can do what I love full-time, as opposed to joining the rat race.. working a job that sucks the life out of me and creating whenever I can 'find time'.. well, then, I find absolutely no shame in that. I'm not opposed to non-vanity art gallery representation. However, I find it utterly foolish for an artist to submit to 'starving artist' status for fear that their self-promotion, especially in regards to eBay, is ruining some future chance they may have of eminent gallery representation."
Internally driven, and emotionally charged, Michel's works have been described as "dark yet uplifting simultaneously". Her works are notoriously difficult to classify as her creative boundaries appear to be endless. Michel clearly dabbles in a wide variety of styles and mediums. Dark earthy abstracts, peculiar collage works, recycled junk art, religious spiritual paintings and her intricate and obsessive circle drawings are just some of the styles you will uncover when you delve in to the unusual and unconventional world of The Raw Artist.
