Should You Feed Your Dog a Raw Diet?

Dogs are carnivorous animals. When they live in the wild, carnivores naturally consume raw prey without suffering adverse effects.The reason animals die in the wild is because of all the dangers lurking there like predators, drought and injury, etc., not because of their raw diet. Carnivores naturally consume raw food - not cooked, dehydrated, baked or pressurized food. In fact in the wild you do not see the degenerative diseases that you see when animals are fed processed foods which are supposedly 100% complete.

When a carnivorous animal eats a rabbit, deer or other herbivore (plant eating animal) it is consuming meat, some organ meats (heart, kidneys, liver), some bone and even
any plants that remain in the herbivore's digestive tract. All of these things together represent a very balanced whole food approach to animal nutrition.

If this balance is upset, we begin to see serious diseases begin to take hold in our pets. Cancer, arthritis, obesity, diabetes, dental problems are disease that result from imbalances which are caused by feeding processed foods as the only diet. When given the proper nutrition, your pet's body has the amazing capability of healing itself.

Professionals Are Recommending A Raw Diet

Professionals who know dogs like veterinarians, breeders, show handlers and sporting competitors are really starting to take a second look at what they feed their dogs and the dogs under their care. After the pet food recall a couple of years ago, many concerned owners began to rethink what they are feeding their beloved pets. There is a growing body of evidence showing pets are much healthier if their diets are supplemented with raw, fresh natural foods as much as possible.

When feeding or supplementing with raw food dog owners and professionals notice many benefits. These include:

* Coats that are shinier & healthier
* Digestion is improved
* Weight control is easier
* Allergy symptoms are greatly reduced
* Teeth are cleaner; less need for dental work
* Reduction of allergy symptoms
* Energy and stamina are increased
* Hyperactivity that is beyond normal is decreased
* Mobility in older dogs is increased

A dog that is dealing with an existing health condition will often improve when switched to a raw diet. Healthy animals given a raw diet are going to build stronger immunity to disease and live better lives.
