Raw Food Dieting an Introduction
Throughout history every civilization and culture has been aware of the concept "you are what you eat". For those of us who wish to heal ourselves as well as our planet, we should begin by eating the foods that can heal the most. Healing foods are categorized as quality, homegrown, organic, wild foods and/or superfoods, that are partaken of in their raw natural state. I created this website as a way to help as many people as possible succeed and prosper with the raw-food lifestyle.

Shop local
When you buy local produce the distance each product travels is significantly lower there by reducing the emissions needed to get the product to you. This also benefits the local economy by increasing the local sales which increases the farmers profit margin as they don't have to pay for long distance shipping. All around it is a great way to boost local growth.
What to put all the that good food on
Most of us can figure out how to get raw food, lots of fruits and veggies, but when you make a salsa or something what do you put it on. There are ton of recipes out there on how to make raw crackers and breads, but most of them require the use of a dehydrator so to that end I found some choices for you listed below. Here is an interesting recipe I found, http://www.living-foods.com/recipes
Basil crackers
by Sophie Quinn
carrot or vegetable pulp from juicing (about 5 cups)
1 clove crushed garlic
1/2 cup basil, chopped or dried handful cilantro, chopped
2 ripe tomatos, chopped
1 cup (or more) sprouted and crushed nuts (almonds, sesame, sunflower...etc.)
sea salt, dulse or braggs to taste
Use a spatula to spread over teflex sheet in dehydrator or pan in oven and dehydrate for about 8 hrs or until completely dry. Wonderful with guacamole or other dips! Also a great way to make convenience food out of compost.

Take your pick of the 25 most nutritious, disease-fighting healthy fruits for sale at your local supermarket. And they're delicious too!
By Cara Rosenbloom, RD
Top 25 healthy fruits: 1-5
This story was originally titled "A Glossary of Healthy Fruits," in the March 2008 issue. Subscribe to Canadian Living today and never miss an issue!
Few things compare to the sweetness of fresh-picked strawberries or the luscious first bite of watermelon that leaves juice dripping down your chin.
Fruits are not only delicious but healthful too. Rich in vitamins A and C, plus folate and other essential nutrients, they may help prevent heart disease and stroke, control blood pressure and cholesterol, prevent some types of cancer and guard against vision loss. They're so good for you that Health Canada recommends that most women get seven or eight servings of fruit and vegetables each day.
If it's the vitamins that promote good health, you may wonder if you can just pop supplements. Nope. Sun-drenched peaches and vine-ripened grapes contain more than just vitamins; they're a complex combination of fibre, minerals, antioxidants and phytochemicals - as well as the vitamins - that work in combination to provide protective benefits. You can't get all that from a pill.
All fruits offer health benefits, but the following 25 stand out as nutrient-dense powerhouses with the most disease-fighting potential. (Note: Only the best sources of each vitamin, mineral and antioxidant are listed in the "nutritional value" section.)
Apple
%u2022 Nutritional value (1 medium): 75 calories, 3 g fibre
%u2022 Disease-fighting factor: Apples contain antioxidants called flavonoids, which may help lower the chance of developing diabetes and asthma. Apples are also a natural mouth freshener and clean your teeth with each crunchy bite.
%u2022 Did you know? An apple's flavour and aroma comes from fragrance cells in apple skin, so for maximum flavour, don't peel your apple. Plus, the vitamins lie just beneath the skin.

Avocado
%u2022 Nutritional value ( ½ avocado): 114 calories, 4.5 g fibre, source of vitamin E and folate
%u2022 Disease-fighting factor: Avocados contain healthy monounsaturated fats that can help lower cholesterol levels when eaten instead of harmful saturated fats. For a heart-healthy boost, replace butter with avocado on your favourite sandwich.
%u2022 Did you know? Babies love avocados. Their soft, creamy texture makes them easy to eat, and their high fat content helps with normal infant growth and development.
Banana
%u2022 Nutritional value (1 medium): 105 calories, 3 g fibre, source of vitamin B6, potassium and folate
%u2022 Disease-fighting factor: With 422 milligrams of potassium per banana, these sweet delights have more potassium than most fruit and may help lower blood pressure levels.
%u2022 Did you know? People with rubber latex allergies may also be allergic to bananas since the two come from similar trees and share a common protein.
Blackberry
%u2022 Nutritional value (1/2 cup/125 mL): 31 calories, 4 g fibre, rich in antioxidants
%u2022 Disease-fighting factor: Blackberries get their deep purple colour from the powerful antioxidant anthocyanin, which may help reduce the risk of stroke and cancer. Studies show that blackberry extract may help stop the growth of lung cancer cells.
%u2022 Did you know? The ancient Greeks called blackberries "gout-berries" and used them to treat gout-related symptoms.
Blueberry
%u2022 Nutritional value (1/2 cup/125 mL): 41 calories, 1.5 g fibre, rich in antioxidants
%u2022 Disease-fighting factor: Blueberries rank No. 1 in antioxidant activity when compared to 60 other fresh fruits and vegetables. Blueberries may help lower the risk of developing age-related diseases such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's.
%u2022 Did you know? Blueberries freeze very well. Here's how: Rinse, then let berries dry in a single layer on towels. Freeze in a single layer on rimmed baking sheets. Seal in freezer-safe containers for up to one year. Use them straight from the freezer in your morning cereal, blend them into a smoothie or mix into pancake or muffin batter. (You can also buy frozen blueberries year-round.)
The serving size listed for each fruit in our glossary counts as one serving in Canada's Food Guide. The number of servings you need each day depends on your age and gender. For example, women between the ages of 19 and 50 need seven to eight servings of fruit and vegetables each day (three fruit and four vegetable servings would suffice). To determine the correct number of vegetable and fruit servings for you, visit the Health Canada website (www.hc-sc.gc.ca) at and search for "food guide."

Does it always need to be Raw Food?
We live in the real world.
If you eat a diet of 75% raw, uncooked fruits, sprouts, vegetables etc. that is considered a raw food diet regimen. Foods that are raw, living foods, contain food enzymes considered to be essential to good health. (cooked foods have less enzyme content than living foods). During cooking, (i.e. when foods are heated above 116°F) the enzymes in living foods are thought to be destroyed.
When following a raw food diet there are particular techniques used to prepare food. These techniques can include juicing fruits and vegetables; soaking nuts and dried fruits; sprouting seeds, grains and beans. A dehydrator is the only form of cooking raw food purists allow. Dehydrators work by blowing hot air through and around the food but the temperature never gets higher than 116°F.
Is it that critical to follow the diet 100% of the time? Certainly not! However implementing some of these techniques and ideas into your diet will certainly benefit your overall health. If snacking at work causes you to eat unhealthy try taking apple slices or carrot sticks. The main stream grocery stores are now offering pre-packaged vegetables and fruits that make it a lot more convenient to take to work.
As westerners we are accustomed to convenience and preparing fruits and vegetables does take more effort, but the results are worth it and you will feel a sense of accomplishment. Fortunately it is now much easier to get bags of sliced carrots, celery, apples, nuts and raisins.
These bagged products are not necessarily made from organic produce, and we feel organic is better, but sometimes the cost is very high for organic food. However anything raw is better than anything cooked, processed and full of sugar. If you are able do buy organic and slice and dice it yourself.
Given the busy lifestyle most of us lead if you need something to eat and you are not able to make a raw choice, don't be to hard on yourself or sabotage the gains you have made so far, sometimes it is just not possible to eat raw food 100% of the time. We all live in the real world so anything from the fruit and vegetable aisle is always going to be better for you than a potato chip, or worse yet, a french fry!

Raw Food For Healthy Skin
Skin Tone, Drinking Water, Coconut Milk, etc.
The most beneficial method to get glowing, healthy skin is to begin from the inside out. The best way to begin is to stop drinking sodas and coffee which contain high amounts of caffeine. Caffeine causes the skin and body to dehydrate, wrinkles and lines are more defined when your skin is suffering from a lack of moisture. Caffeine is a diuretic, which causes an increase in urine output, which contributes to the depletion of moisture from your skin and body. Trying to combat this by using moisturizers is not the best solution. Putting moisture into your body will do more for you in the long run.
The negative effects of caffeine on your body will show on your skin. People who consume excess amounts of caffeine can experience sleeplessness, osteoporosis, depression, and headaches. Also anything that causes discomfort to you when you stop drinking it, i.e. withdrawal symptoms, in my opinion is not good for you. All of these things can be reflected in the appearance of your skin.
To get the hydration, your body needs to function properly and to keep your skin looking it's best, you truly do need to drink plenty of pure water, unprocessed fruit juice and/or coconut milk. The colors of the earth are reflected in the colors of fruit juice and drinking unprocessed juices will be reflected in warm and healthy skin tones.
After replacing teas, colas, and coffee that you make with boiling water, with "sun tea", pure water, coconut milk and fruit juices, you will shortly begin to feel better and sleep better. Once you have kicked the caffeine habit and increased your intake of good moisture, the good health of your cells and organs will be reflected on your skin.
Another reason for drinking pure water, juices and "sun tea" is that when you boil water, you're releasing oxygen from it.The skin is the largest elimination organ. When your body is releasing toxins they must pass through the skin to be eliminated, this requires moisture and that is why the more moisture you have available the less stress there will be on your skin.
Your detoxification rate increases with the consumption of raw food. When you drink water it aids the body in ridding itself of accumulated toxins.
There are many other foods beneficial to the skin, one of the best is seaweed, which is high in minerals and vitamins and it also helps the body rid itself of toxins. What you put into your body is what is reflected on the outside of your body so remember; if you put garbage in you get garbage back out, and if your goal is to achieve and maintain a healthy complexion, you will need to eat plenty of raw food and drink plenty of water.

Wolfberry is the common name for the fruit of two very closely related species: Lycium barbarum (Chinese: % u5BE7%u590F%u67B8%u675E; pinyin: Níngxià g%u01D2uq% u01D0) and L. chinense (Chinese: %u67B8%u675E; pinyin: g%u01D2uq%u01D0), two species of boxthorn in the family Solanaceae (which also includes the potato, tomato, eggplant, deadly nightshade, chili pepper, and tobacco).
Although its original habitat is obscure (probably
southeastern Europe to southwest Asia), wolfberry
species currently grow in many world regions.[1] Only in China, however, is there significant commercial cultivation.
According to the United States Department of Agriculture Germplasm Resources Information Network,[2] it is also known as Chinese wolfberry, goji berry, barbary matrimony vine, bocksdorn, Duke of Argyll's tea tree,[3] or matrimony vine.[4] Unrelated to the plant's geographic origin, the names Tibetan goji and Himalayan goji are in common use[5] in the health food market for products from this plant.
