Real Raw Milk or Dead Dairy? Weigh in on the Raw Milk Debate!

Raw milk is real food! Science has yet to improve on the good food nature gives us. It tends to really screw things up when it tries ... saccharin, anyone?

Milk is a food that has been consumed for most of human history, yet only in recent times, with science "improving" it through pasteurization and homogenization, have health troubles been the result. Even lactose-intolerant people can usually consume raw dairy, due to the proliferation of live enzymes residing within that help the body digest the food!

Studies in the prestigious medical journal The Lancet proved that, contrary to popular and official government opinion, children drinking raw milk have fewer incidences of tuberculosis, not to mention less tooth decay as compared to children drinking pasteurized milk.

So ... YES, WAY! Monkeybrain, the real food is real, raw milk!

Real Milk = Real Food

Jean says:

RAW ALL the way!!!!

WaynesWorld says:

Before my 8th grade school year we moved to a home in the country. The neighbors 1/4 of a mile away had a dairy cow and would bring us over fresh raw milk several times a month. It was funky putting it on cereal and there would be traces of the cream that had rose to the top, it just looked weird. If you shook it up first you wouldn't see it. During the summer when peaches were in season my mom would get some cream from the neighbors and pour over the top of the peaches... a taste of Heaven on Earth!!!
Great lens!

Eric says:

I'm lactose intolerant and my body can't digest pasteurized milk. However, my body can handle raw milk perfectly fine!

L.Z. says:

The ONLY kind of milk I would ever drink!

Shannon says:

I would no longer drink anything else, after years of not drinking milk, this is a pleasure and I am happy to be able to teach my son the benefits of raw is better

Brianna says:

Absolutely!! We drink raw milk every day.

BT Hill says:

I wouldn't hesitate!

Shannon says:

Yes! Absolutely yes!

Tirra says:

Yes Yes yes to raw milk

nightcats says:

I was raised on a farm. I didn't know there was any such thing as milk in bottles until I left home. Of course, pasturization has its purpose too!

Graceonline says:

I regularly buy raw milk, whenever I can get it. It flies off the shelf at my local organic produce store. Tastes better, and we seem to feel better, using it.

Tiggered says:

No sterile crap for me :)

Katthe7th says:

I love raw milk! I would never drink raw milk from a big factory farm though. Mine comes from a small organic farm where the cows are kept in sanitary conditions, eat mostly grass out in the pasture, and the farm is certified by the state. More importantly, I KNOW the farmers, and I trust that hey are dedicated to providing safe, high quality milk.

Evelyn_Saenz says:

I would certainly be willing to try raw milk if I knew the cow it came from.

flipflopnana says:

Raw = Fresh!

Philippians468 says:

i like my milk fresh!

Asinka says:

I drink raw milk so I'd go for it

Erin Vilchez says:

Raw milk heals us from the inside out if dairies take extreme precautionary measures to keep it clean and keep their cows in open pastures where they can naturally stay healthy as well!

Irenemaria says:

Absolutely! But it is hard to find when you live in a city

remanon says:

Although in some places it is impossible to get (even to the point the producer may be prosecuted for giving, never mind selling, it to you) for health and taste it is the only way to go.

No way, Monkeybrain!

RandomlyAwesome4ever says:

U think I'd drink raw milk? Yeah, be glad that'll only happen over my dead body with the dead dairy milk!

RandomlyAwesome4ever says:

U think I'd pick raw milk? Yeah, be glad that'll only happen over my dead body with dead dairy milk!

RandomlyAwesome4ever says:

Ewwww raw milk sounds disgusting! I'd prefer my dead dairy milk please.

Robb1434 says:

I had worked as a milk gatherer, for a large company, I for one say these companies can sterilize the heck out of my milk. I have seen things in these milk vats that would cause you to stop drinking milk all together...Raw milk sure its better for you but until the regulate these farmers more closely about the cleanliness of there facilities, I say DRINK WATER!!!

mcochs says:

No raw milk for me,thanks. I DID get tuberculosis from it while in England as a teenager.

Jakem110 says:

I bet raw milk is healthier...but I'm just so used to 1%. Allthough raw milk is probably healthier, 1% milk still has great health qualities.

Being lactose intolerant(flem up a bit) it never occurred that raw milk might be okay, I will definitely keep it in mind to try and find out for my own agenda.
One thing I remember about the neighbors cow and I have even tasted it with the pasteurized stuff from the store is when the milk had a pasture flavor; meaning you could taste the grass flavor. In the winter months the cows would eat hay and grain and you wouldn't notice this.

I was never a milk drinker, until I tasted raw milk, and I am fortunate to have a raw milk source I trust. I found this lens while searching for more information on the overall safety of raw milk. Early on this page, you mentioned studies published in the Lancet. Could you provide links to those, please? Also curious how well respected the Lancet is, compared say, to the Journal of the AMA, and have there been any similar studies published by the AMA?

I never liked milk as a kid until one day I got a chance to milk a goat myself. I gulped down nearly a litre then :)

I'm not so certain if raw milk would be the best choice, but commercialized milk can be a great source of Calcium to improve the overall health of our bones. I always take two glasses of low-fat milk at night to help in the recovery of my DePuy Pinnacle hip implant. And I've been more religious in taking in foods that are high in Calcium after I've read on the DePuy Pinnacle Lawsuit website of the issues surrounding the DePuy Pinnacle hip implant.

I grew up drinking raw milk from my family's cows. Ended up in the city for a few years around 12 years old, and couldn't drink the stuff they try to call milk. It made me sick, so I started putting orange juice on my cereal. After I went back to the farm, I couldn't drink milk again, and only drank raw up until I went vegan 1 year ago.

I like the taste of raw milk but we are not in a habit of consuming it raw for the fear that bacteria might be present. Besides, you have to boil the milk, otherwise it will not stay longer.

You eat other food raw, and it might have bacteria in it. The big salmonella and e.coli scares of the past few years have all been in apples and lettuce and tomatoes. We've been conditioned to be afraid of milk more than other raw food, for ZERO good reason.

And you do not have to boil it - then it's not raw! My family drinks two gallons of raw milk each week - not boiled. If it goes sour then we just use it to make cottage cheese, clabber, or sour milk biscuits.
