Prince Edward Island is surrounded by miles of sandy beaches and red sandstone cliffs. The maritime province is the smallest in the nation in both land area and population (excluding the territories).

Approximately 140,000 "Islanders" presently live in the province with Charlottetown and Summerside consisting of a large portion of the population.

Charlottetown is the capital city of Prince Edward Island, and is called the "Birthplace of Confederation" after the historic 1864 Charlottetown Conference which led to Confederation.The City of Charlottetown is a small community of over 32,000 people located on the south shore of Prince Edward Island.

Prince Edward Island has some of the cheapest land in North American. It is also an island surrounded by great beaches. The people from the Island are known for their east coast friendliness.

Real estate values on PEI have grown consistently over the years but have never seen a huge boom. Therefore there are still good inexpensive properties available.

The decrease of American buyers and the increase of Western Canadian buyers has kept waterfront real estate prices going up.

According to Canadian Real Estate Magazine Charlottetown PEI has had the following increase in real estate since September 2006.

Detached bungalow - 3.4%
Standard two story - 1.1%
Standard Condominium - 2.0%

This seems reasonable, but does not divide down the recreational gains on property on PEI.

The Prince Edward Island market has seen a drop in American investors and an increase in Western Canadian buyers.

This can be attributed to the strong economic performance in the West and economic troubles in the United States.

The main type of property still coveted is waterfront vacation homes.
