Realm of MerFaery

Louise Heyden, aka Miss MerFaery, is a self-taught artist and writer living in magical Cheshire, England. Louise has had a lifelong passion for all things Fey, and after becoming an expectant mum in 2009, was inspired to finally live her dream of working from home, and put her artist talents towards crafting enchanted creations.

From her craft studio overlooking her wild garden full of flora, fauna and fey, Louise aims to create things that are both beautiful and strange, curious and familiar, magical and everyday.

From miniature wild faeries to cute FaeryCats, sacred altar shrines to magical curiosities, Louise uses a variety of mixed medias to design unique, handmade items, most of which are one-of-a-kind.

The FaeryCats are magical, mischievous creatures, which usually reside in the enchanted realms of Faerie. Being naturally curious critters, however, they sometimes wander into the realm of humankind, and a lucky few may glimpse them playing in the woods, chasing butterflies and exploring trees!

I love working on my FaeryCats range and have so far created OOAK figurines and ACEOs.

I just love to create! I have been fascinated by faeries, mythology, Avalon and magic since childhood. I have always written fantasy fiction and now explore this world in 3D too!

Through my artwork I want to express the world of Faerie and the Other Realms as I see them, and create things that I would love to buy, but simply can't find.

I love all sorts of fantasy art, from the cute to the gothic. My favourite artists are Brian Froud, because I think he captures faeries just as they truly are, Wendy Froud, for her incredible faerie dolls, Jasmine Becket-Griffith, for her beautiful gothic style, and Nene Thomas, for her incredibly real fantasy artwork, which is like stepping into another world!

Jessica Galbreth, Kate Monkman (Free Range Faeries), Esther Remmington, Susan Schroder, Julia Jeffrey, Amy Brown, Josephine Wall... there are many artists who adorn my walls at home! I love them all, and there are far too many to mention here!

I am always inspired by the wild things... magical woods, crashing seas, rolling mountains. There is much to be spotted if you look close enough... faeries peering through branches, mermaids disappearing into the crest of a wave. I am also greatly inspired by the old legends, Avalon, the worlds of the Celts and the Norse, ancient fairytales. The ways of the Witch and Druid also inspire me, as does the Goddess path. The many forms and manifestations of the goddess make the perfect muse!
